Diesel Technician

Position Summary: The Diesel Technician maintains diesel equipment, performs inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, corrects vehicle deficiencies, completes adjustments and alignments, and maintains records to ensure safety and customer service commitment. Starting Rate Hourly rate of $24–$28, depending on experience. Key Responsibilities Perform all job duties in accordance with company safety policies and regulations. Conduct maintenance tasks based on driver pre‑ and post‑trip inspections promptly, as directed by the maintenance manager. Maintain diesel equipment operation through inspections and preventative maintenance, making appropriate corrections when needed. Work in adverse conditions such as heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow to repair equipment and vehicles. Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements. Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner. Maintain all relevant records for work and procedures, reporting on issues. Execute accurate lockout/tagout procedures. Run diagnostic tests on vehicles, analyze results, and problem‑solve; test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions when necessary. Perform necessary procedures to ensure maximum reliability and safety of equipment, including preventative maintenance inspections, tire changes, brake changes, and hydraulic component repairs. Participate in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of company products, services, and values, and perform any other duties needed to support company vision and mission. Career Path Definitions & Distinctions Technician Apprentice: Works alongside a knowledgeable Casella Waste Diesel Technician to learn and further develop skills, focusing on preventative maintenance and vehicle safety. Technician B: Identifies operating issues, examines and test‑drives vehicles, troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems using standard testing procedures and diagnostic equipment, and corrects findings. Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs vehicle brakes, suspension, steering, tires, rims, hubs, PTO, hydraulics, engine, cooling, starting, ignition, charging, lighting, fuel and air intake, heating, ventilation, and cooling systems to ensure safe operation. Master Technician: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs all vehicle and equipment systems, capable of rebuilding and replacing engines, transmission components, drive lines, mechanical and electrical systems, and hydraulic components. Education, Experience & Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED; minimum age 18; valid Class A, B, or C Driver’s license; eligible to work in the United States. • Minimum of 1 year experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective listening and problem‑solving abilities, and dedication to customer service. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy components, pushing, pulling, crouching, climbing, and standing, walking, and grasping consistently in both garage/shop and outdoor environments. • Successful completion of pre‑employment testing, including a drug screen.
