System Operator I

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, employs people across eight states in a variety of roles, including field workers, customer service representatives, scientists and engineers. An opening exists for a Wastewater Operator – Willow Grove. Essential Duties Be knowledgeable of maintenance work related to mechanical equipment and minor electrical equipment associated with wastewater treatment plants and pump stations. Perform plumbing and piping work with all types of materials including PVC, PE, copper, steel and cast iron. Use mechanical skills to repair or replace plant equipment, including pumps, instruments, and chemical feed equipment. Operate all tools and equipment necessary for plant and pump‑station work. Work with electrical components up to 240 volts, including wiring motors, control wiring, and testing basic electrical components. Monitor operations of assigned wastewater facilities, conduct testing and analysis to maintain compliance with regulatory permits. Recommend and implement process changes to improve operational performance. Monitor collection system performance and pump stations; recommend improvements and upgrades as needed. Coordinate chemicals, fuel, parts and supplies necessary for facility operation. Maintain facility records, equipment manuals and operating data. Accurately and timely generate and complete work orders using the company software platform. Assist management and supervisors in developing and administering safety procedures at facilities. Monitor PLC network to review automated operation of wastewater facilities. Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned. Compensation The hourly rate of pay is $36.73 per hour*. All employees hired or entering the bargaining unit on or after April 1 2021 will receive $3.00 per hour less than the classification wage rate. The wage reduction will be returned in $1.00 increases once a year over a three‑year period. Employees will receive annual contract increases. Qualifications At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent. Valid U.S. driver’s license required. Required licensing: Wastewater Class E collection system license. Preference for five (5) years of equipment and system maintenance in an industrial environment. Preference for an associate’s degree or certification in mechanical or electrical competency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient in MS Office or related software; daily use of computer and data entry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicate clearly and professionally with internal customers. Must meet and follow all Aqua safety requirements for hazards, including chemical, electrical, PPE, lock‑out/tag‑out procedures. Willing to receive training and provide additional operational support to other water and wastewater systems. A team player able to work effectively in a multi‑tasking environment. Working Conditions / Physical Demands Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas hazards, fumes, dust, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Required to be on‑call on a weekly rotational basis and available to assist with after‑hours emergencies as needed. Travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents. Work may occur in several counties including Chester, Bucks, Delaware, Berks, Montgomery, WestGrove, Cochranville, KennettSquare, EastBradford Township, Thornbury Township, Willistown Township, EastWhiteland Township, Tredyffrin Township, EastBrandywine Township, Chester Springs, Solebury Township, Worcester Township, UpperMerion Township, Limerick Township, Gilbertsville, Douglas Township, New Garden Township, and North Heidelberg.
