CNC Machinist (2nd shift, 4X10)

Job Overview Woodward is hiring a CNC Machinist to work on the 2nd shift (Monday–Thursday, 4×10 schedule starting 3:30pm). The role involves operating and maintaining CNC and manual machines to produce precision metal parts in accordance with engineering specifications. The position includes responsibilities and qualifications for two skill levels. Compensation is based on level and ranges from$21.15‑$33.65 an hour for Level1 and $24.04‑$38.46 an hour for Level2, with overtime eligible. All levels receive the company benefits described below. Responsibilities Level1 Set up and operate CNC or manual machines (Lathes, Mills, Swiss, Grinders) to produce precision parts. Perform supporting operations such as manual material removal and sub‑assembly while following established procedures. Conduct 1st‑piece inspections and may be trained in process‑level inspecting. Follow detailed work instructions to maintain production efficiency and accuracy. Read engineering blueprints and apply basic GD&T knowledge. Use gauges to inspect finished products, record data, and maintain SOP records. Apply 5S principles, improve workstation organization and cleanliness, and support new 5S practices. Encourage safety protocol adherence. Level2 Perform complex set‑ups and operate a range of CNC or manual machines (Lathes, Mills, Swiss, Grinders). Execute supporting operations and conduct 1st‑piece inspections, responsible for training peers in these processes. Interpret engineering drawings with in‑depth GD&T knowledge. Inspect finished products using precision gauges, record and maintain data per SOP. Champion 5S by developing and refining practices, ensuring consistent team adherence, and collaborating with leadership on broader process integration. Act as a safety champion, fostering accountability and aligning safety initiatives with organizational goals. Qualifications Level1 Skilled in operating multiple CNC or manual machining equipment such as Lathes, Mills, Swiss, and OD/ID Grinders. Proficient in supporting operations. Mechanical aptitude and ability to use inspection gauges and hand/power tools. Strong critical‑thinking skills; identifies gaps and resolves or escalates per standard procedures. Effective team communication, prioritization, and time management. Leans toward 5S and waste‑reduction practices, participates in continuous improvement. Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, data entry). Attention to detail, precision, and adherence to instructions. Collaborative, willing to share knowledge, and accepts feedback. Level2 Experienced in setting up and operating numerous CNC machines and related equipment. Skilled in tooling selection and machine insert knowledge. Problem‑solving: forecasts potential issues, diagnoses, and implements proactive solutions. Mechanical aptitude with thorough understanding of mechanical systems and components. Advanced use of inspection gauges and hand/power tools. Excellent team communication and time management; driver of efficiency. Strong lean mindset, actively supports and leads 5S initiatives and continuous improvement. Production systems knowledge, escalates when standards not met, participates in daily management. Computer skills; capable of using specialized software where applicable. Attention to detail and quality‑focused work; follows instructions precisely.
