Accountant
Dairy Farmers of America
Position purpose: The accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze and/or reconcile assigned General Ledger accounts
- Review, maintain, initiate and request Certificates of Insurance
- Review and repair daily discrepancies between finished goods on hand and supporting pallet quantities
- Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable general ledger to supporting subsidiaries
- Reconcile monthly sales reports to general ledger
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Review monthly maintenance parts costs
- Prepare monthly state and federal milk reports
- Establish costs for milk PO purchases
- Generate monthly intercompany report
- Reconcile monthly third party billings for employee benefit premiums to the general ledger
- Fixed asset accounting
- Analyze clearing account and rectify errors
- Maintain analysis of utility expenses
- Generate monthly Operations reports
- Banking duties as assigned
- Prepare annual vendor and buyer ethics mailing
- Initiate and finalize annual review of maintenance parts for obsolescence
- Complete and file annual State unclaimed property report
- Provide outside auditors with assistance, gathering necessary account information and documents for annual audit
- Monthly rebate accruals and reconciliations
- Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- On-site/In office work only
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field required
- At least two years of related accounting experience required
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
