Junior Specialist- Adam Lab

Position Overview Senior Laboratory Specialist – Junior Specialist level, full-time, in‑person, starting Summer 2026 at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain. This position lasts one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The successful candidate will conduct studies on visual attention and visual working memory in healthy adults using electroencephalography (EEG), eye‑tracking, and behavioral measures such as reaction time. The work will be carried out in the Attention, Distractions, and Memory (ADAM) laboratory. Responsibilities (a) Conducting research (85%) Oversee daily laboratory operations, including IRB material preparation and compliance, supply ordering, and participant scheduling. Test participants with EEG and eye‑tracking equipment. Train students and staff on equipment use, data collection, and data preparation. Assist in developing scripts and programs for EEG and behavioral experiments. Preprocess EEG data for statistical analysis using the lab’s custom code and assess data quality. Analyze data in MATLAB and/or Python. Maintain lab website, procedural documentation, and calendars for undergraduate assistants. (b) Developing research materials Design experimental stimuli and other materials using Psychtoolbox (MATLAB) and related software, contributing to experimental design. (c) Dissemination of research Participate in literature discussions and conduct literature reviews. Present findings at conferences (live or remote). Contribute to manuscript preparation and poster creation. (d) Preparation of public‑facing reports and briefings Draft accessible summaries of research for broader university and public audiences. Assist in drafting social media communications to promote research and lab scientists. (e) Undergraduate research assistant training and mentoring (15%) Train and mentor undergraduate students in participant testing, data coding, and analysis protocols. Teach use of analysis software. Qualifications Basic: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field; prior experience with EEG equipment and EEG data; strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred: Familiarity with IRB protocols; experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or R.
