Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026. Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for a full‑time appointment as an Ophthalmology Senior Registrar (5th year position) at Bayside Health in 2027. Priority will be given to suitably qualified locally trained ophthalmology trainees seeking to complete their final year of training. However, internationally trained ophthalmologists who meet eligibility requirements are also encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to be able to perform cataract surgery independently and should have completed the RANZCO RACE examination, or hold an equivalent recognised international ophthalmology qualification acceptable to RANZCO and AHPRA. This role represents an excellent general ophthalmology position for trainees wishing to complete their final year of RANZCO training or for suitably qualified overseas‑trained ophthalmologists seeking advanced supervised practice in Australia. The ophthalmology clinics are well supported by 18 consultant ophthalmologists with subspecialty training in medical retina, uveitis, glaucoma, oculoplastics, cornea, and strabismus. The Alfred Ophthalmology Unit provides services to a diverse mix of general hospital and major trauma inpatients, offering exposure to a broad and complex range of ophthalmic conditions. Duties Will Include Two to three independent operating lists per week, in accordance with credentialing and with consultant availability and oversight One medical retina clinic per week, including laser and intravitreal injection procedures Two general ophthalmology clinics per week Two cataract clinics per week Participation in the on‑call roster (approximately one in three weeks) Supervision of junior registrars and residents Teaching and supervision of medical students Appropriate supervision, credentialing, and governance support will be provided in line with Bayside Health, RANZCO, and AHPRA requirements.
