Assistant Research Professor, Cotton Agronomy

Responsibilities Establish an externally funded research program focused on applied cotton agronomy in southeast Missouri, contributing 60% of the position. Disseminate unbiased, research‑based information to producers and industry through extension presentations, publications, and media outlets, contributing 40% of the position. Conduct cotton variety trials and lead the development of innovative cotton technologies for future production. Plan, design, and conduct field experiments, including data collection, statistical analysis, and publication of findings in peer‑reviewed journals and extension articles. Collaborate with public and private researchers, farmers, and extension specialists to advance regional cotton production. Qualifications Ph.D. in agronomy, soil science, agricultural engineering, or a related field by the time of appointment. Proficiency in cotton production practices, including weed and disease/insect control, fertility, tillage, and irrigation. Excellent oral communication skills to interact with farmers and other commodity stakeholders. Ability to work well in a collaborative, team‑based environment. Experience with precision agriculture and digital technology as it relates to modern farming practices. Proven ability to secure research funding. Knowledge of operating and maintaining plot and farm‑scale equipment. Demonstrated experience in data analysis and scientific writing, including grant proposals, scientific publications, and extension material.
