AWS (CWI) Welding Inspector (First and Second Shift)

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) | Structural Racking Manufacturing A manufacturing facility specializing in structural racking systems is seeking an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to lead continuous inspection and documentation across the production floor. This role ensures full compliance with AWS D1.1 standards and company quality requirements in a hands-on fabrication environment. The position oversees all stages of production - cutting, punching, shearing, stamping, notching, welding (GMAW Spray Transfer), and painting - requiring close attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining controlled, documented processes throughout. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily floor and weld inspections, including part fit-up, visual inspection, and review of WPSs and PQRs
- Ensure compliance with welding credentials, documentation, and AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code requirements
- Perform welder certification testing per AWS D1.1, including minor destructive testing
- Prepare and maintain Welder Qualification Records (WQRs), PQRs, WPSs, and inspection records
- Monitor welder qualifications and maintain controlled processes, procedures, and specifications
- Verify welding equipment functionality and documentation on a daily basis
- Interpret fabrication drawings and apply them to inspection activities
- Support and maintain the established Quality Assurance Manual
- Travel occasionally by car or plane as required
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
- Background in manufacturing and welding processes preferred.
- Strong documentation, inspection, and quality assurance skills.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience .
- High school diploma or equivalent (required; post-secondary preferred).
- Strong penmanship and attention to detail.
- Computer skills, including MS Office tools.
- Willingness to travel as required and ability to maintain a personal credit card for expenses.
- Knowledge of inspection tools and equipment.
- Clean driving record (must be willing to sign waiver for verification).
- Strong organizational skills; self-driven and motivated.
