Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist - Oncology Department: James | James Lab Location: James Cancer Hospital (0375) Job Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: Third Shift Scope of Position The Clinical Lab Professional 2 will provide primary support to the James Stat Laboratory, and secondary support to ancillary James laboratory locations as needed. The James Laboratory provides comprehensive, time‑sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and assists with bone marrow procedures. The lab provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students and operates 24/7. Position Summary The medical laboratory technologist performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results, handles phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. Oncology staff uses the laboratory computer system to review reports, call critical values to various healthcare professionals, and performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Technologists work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science.
