Schedule Details: Monday through Friday Scheduled Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Shift: 1 – Day Shift, 8 Hours (United States of America) Hours: 40 Cost Center: 10020 - 4161 Pediatric Orthopedic Center Union: UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Signing Bonus: May be available; a Recruitment Team member will confirm eligibility during the interview process. I. Major Responsibilities Escort patients to examination rooms, take and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.) and document patient health status and progress following standard procedures. Assist in performing routine clinical procedures. Perform cast work for arms, hands, legs, body casts, bi-valve casts, corrective casts, cast wedging, brace molding, and splinting with plaster and fiberglass materials. Instruct patients in cast care. Apply and adjust orthopedic leg and arm braces, canes, crutches, and prefabricated fracture braces. Instruct patients in gait training. Assist with the set-up and application for procedures such as pin removal, wound debridement, dressing changes, and suture removals. Assist physician/APP with surgical procedures utilizing appropriate aseptic techniques. Provide clear, timely communication to the appropriate licensed clinician regarding observations and changes reported in patient care. Set up and prepare rooms based on patient care requirements; assist in the setup, maintenance, disassembly, and cleaning of patient equipment. Ensure instruments and scopes are cleaned, sterilized, and repackaged per office/clinic protocol. Assist in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients as directed, following policy standards and proper safety techniques. Follow procedures for arriving patients and scheduling appointments. Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge/checkout procedures. Maintain assigned office and/or clinical supplies; assure accurate inventory and initiate requisitions as needed. Maintain logs, organize patient care charts, and/or maintain medical records; enter data or retrieve medical information from the electronic medical record. Perform clerical duties per office/clinic protocol such as typing, filing, scheduling appointments, generating letters and form preparation, receiving/returning/directing phone calls, and documenting in patient record as required. Collaborate with insurers to verify coverage, eligibility, and prior authorizations; follow guidelines for pre-authorization and clinician referrals. Collect co-payments from patients for visits and maintain records. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Attend variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required. Participate in use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements. Perform other similar and related duties as required. II. Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (e.g., ARMA, NHA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, obtain within 3 months; failure to obtain may result in termination or reapplication to a suitable position. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Position requires work indoors in a patient care office or clinic environment. Hands must have dexterity; hearing and vision to take direction from a patient or provider; the ability to adjust equipment and observe patient conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The work is of medium demand, standing and walking most of the time, with occasional pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.
