Shift Lead (3rd)

Description Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in producing custom thermoplastic extrusions by performing the following duties. Responsibilities Oversees production on all extrusion lines, including quality control, coordinating manpower and material requirements on the shift, monitoring output, and managing time and equipment. Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Interprets company policy to workers on the shift pertaining to overtime, absenteeism, tardiness, alcohol or drug use, and enforces safety regulations. Responsible for the welfare of employees on the shift, including breaks, general safety, recommendations on working conditions, and administering decisions pertaining to health and safety. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assigns duties. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments. Works with workers to set up machines and equipment. Performs activities of workers supervised when required. Monitors the job performance of each worker on the shift and evaluates them formally or informally. Provides on‑job training to new employees on the shift, following management guidelines. Collaborates and gets along with others. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED); manufacturing experience required. Language skills: ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence; present information clearly in one‑on‑one and small group settings. Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning ability: apply common sense to instructions; deal with problems involving several concrete variables. Computer skills: basic computer operations. Physical demands: stand and walk regularly; occasionally use hands to finger, handle, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and assist in lifting or moving up to 100 pounds occasionally; vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Work environment: exposure to moving mechanical parts, occasional wet and/or humid conditions, moderate noise level.
