Position Description The Air Command and Control (C2) Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, testing, and sustainment of aviation Command and Control (C2) systems and associated Tactical Data Link (TDL) architectures in support of operational and engineering test environments. This role provides subject matter expertise in Link-16 and associated protocols (JREAP A/B/C, Satellite Link 16), enabling seamless data exchange and interoperability across joint and coalition systems. The position supports the full lifecycle of test events—including planning, execution, analysis, and reporting (PEAR)—across both laboratory and shipboard environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of air C2 systems, simulation tools, and tactical networks, and will play a critical role in advancing integrated air-ground operational capabilities. Essential Position Functions Install, configure, modify, and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and virtual network infrastructures across OSI Layers 1 (Physical), 2 (Data Link), 3 (Network), and 4 (Transport). Analyze and evaluate network infrastructure performance during test and engineering events; develop and implement solutions to improve reliability, throughput, and overall network efficiency. Assess the effectiveness of test and operational network environments, including integration with air C2 systems, and implement strategies to enhance communications capabilities and infrastructure performance. Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging network technologies relevant to USMC tactical environments, ensuring alignment with evolving mission requirements and operational standards. Collect, analyze, and report network performance data to support after-action reviews, test event analysis, and engineering recommendations. Provide subject matter expertise in the integration of C2 systems within LAN and WAN architectures, ensuring seamless interoperability across networked systems. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities within network architectures and implementing scalable, resilient solutions. Competencies for the role The Command and Control (C2) Network Administrator demonstrates strong technical expertise in LAN, WAN, and virtual network architectures across OSI Layers 1–4, with the ability to integrate C2 systems and optimize network performance in complex environments. The role requires analytical problem-solving skills, a test and evaluation mindset, and the ability to translate network data into actionable improvements that enhance reliability and mission effectiveness. Physical Requirements for the role This position is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods, including viewing monitors, using keyboards, and operating standard office equipment. The role may require occasional standing, walking, and minimal lifting (up to 10 pounds). Reports To Assigned Program Manager Supervisory responsibilities None The work environment for this position is primarily a professional office or remote setting with standard business conditions. The role involves regular use of computers and related technology in a low-noise environment and frequent collaboration with technical and non-technical team members. Work is generally performed during normal business hours with minimal physical risk, and the environment supports adherence to established cybersecurity, safety, and organizational policies.
