Are you an experienced estimating leader with deep NCDOT and heavy civil construction expertise?

A highly respected heavy civil contractor is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department and drive the pursuit of major transportation and infrastructure projects throughout North Carolina and the Southeast.

This is a key leadership position within an established contractor that delivers complex highway, roadway, bridge, and infrastructure projects, with approximately 80% of work coming from DOT clients and a strong reputation across the region.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, you will take ownership of the estimating function, lead a team of four estimators, and play a critical role in securing the company's future project pipeline.

This opportunity has become available following the departure of a long-tenured Chief Estimator who held the position for 17 years, creating an excellent opportunity for the right individual to step into a highly visible leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all estimating operations and major bid pursuits

• Develop bid strategies and support go/no-go decisions

• Oversee detailed estimates for highway, roadway, earthwork, grading, paving, structures, drainage, and utility projects

• Lead and mentor a team of estimators while driving best practices and continuous improvement

• Manage subcontractor and supplier pricing, negotiations, and relationships

• Conduct risk assessments and identify value engineering opportunities

• Partner closely with operations, project management, and executive leadership during preconstruction planning

• Review project documents, constructability concerns, and bid strategies

• Present estimates, recommendations, and pursuit strategies to senior leadership

What We're Looking For:

• 15+ years of heavy civil estimating experience

• Strong background estimating DOT transportation and infrastructure projects

• Previous experience leading estimating teams or departments

• Deep understanding of NCDOT projects strongly preferred

• Proven ability to successfully bid and win major public infrastructure work

• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid and industry-standard estimating software

• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
