Senior Phlebotomist

Overview Optum is a global organization delivering care aided by technology. The Senior Phlebotomist will perform a wide range of laboratory duties including specimen collection, waived and moderate testing (including microscopy), and EKGs. The role requires a strong background in phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, and patient care with attention to detail, accuracy, and organization. The individual will work independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality patient care. Schedule 40-hour work week with the following considerations: Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm Hours may fluctuate based on business needs Final scheduling determined by the hiring manager Location 9924 North East 185th Street, Bothell, WA 98011 (LAB) Primary Responsibilities Venipuncture and specimen collection: collect blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary techniques; maintain a clean, safe work environment; process and prepare specimens for testing and transport; troubleshoot issues; provide patient collection instructions and post-collection care; dispose of biohazards and sharps; obtain specimens for microbiology testing; perform EKGs; order and rotate supplies; follow venipuncture and processing standard of work (SOW) with positive patient identification. Perform waived and moderate complexity laboratory testing: conduct testing including microscopy; maintain records; perform quality control and calibration; participate in QA/QC and proficiency testing; follow SOW and lab procedures; participate in competency assessments. Customer experience: interact with patients and healthcare providers professionally; assist with patient registration following reception standards; solve problems efficiently; locate missing lab orders and specimens; maintain strong phone skills. Benefits and Compensation Pay is based on factors including local markets, education, experience, and certifications. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentives, and a 401(k) plan. The hourly pay range is $18.00 to $32.00 for full-time employment. All benefits are subject to eligibility. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-Pbt) certification in Washington to perform capillary and venous procedures under supervision Completion of a Phlebotomy certificate program from an accredited school BLS (American Heart Association) certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment 1+ years of experience with strong verbal and written communication skills Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds; carry up to 24 pounds) Ability to adhere to the code of conduct Ability to work a 40-hour week including the stated schedule; final scheduling by the hiring manager Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel to other draw stations Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of blood draw experience Experience with laboratory information systems and EHR Familiarity with CLIA requirements and EKG procedures Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology Demonstrated organizational and time management skills Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment Ability to troubleshoot specimen collection, testing, and equipment issues Experience working with diverse patient populations Understanding of HIPAA compliance and safety protocols Soft Skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities Ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment Physical and Working Conditions Must meet physical and mental demands; reasonable accommodations available Regularly stand, walk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; use of machine controls; occasional prolonged sitting Must be able to hear, see clearly, and communicate effectively Typical clinical environment with potential exposure to infectious agents Equal Opportunity and Other UnitedHealth Group is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
