The Facilities Engineer (HVAC) supports facility maintenance operations by performing preventative, corrective, and general maintenance on a wide range of HVAC systems and related equipment. This role focuses on maintaining HVAC equipment, production chillers and boilers, building controls, and kitchen refrigeration to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe operation across multiple buildings. The engineer performs tests, rounds, and data analysis to verify proper equipment performance, follows manufacturing standards, and adheres to established change processes for qualified core equipment and components.
Responsibilities- Support the Facility Maintenance Manager in the preventative, corrective, and general maintenance of HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Monitor the operation of refrigerant systems, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment and systems, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment to ensure proper performance.
- Adjust and maintain boilers, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment as needed to sustain optimal operation.
- Perform routine equipment rounds, record readings, and analyze data to identify trends, verify system performance, and detect potential issues.
- Notify appropriate parties promptly of any problems or malfunctions and recommend corrective actions.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on base building and critical system equipment, including assembling required tools, supplies, and instruments prior to work.
- Complete maintenance tasks with minimal disruption to facility operations and conduct immediate clean-up of the work area upon completion.
- Accurately complete preventative maintenance task sheets and documentation to maintain compliance with manufacturing standards and facility procedures.
- Return tools to the workshop and unused supplies to the storeroom after each assignment to maintain an organized work environment.
- Advise the Maintenance Manager of any equipment problems, recurring issues, or opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot rooftop units (RTUs) up to 20 tons and other commercial or industrial HVAC systems to diagnose and resolve operational issues.
- Perform maintenance and repair on refrigeration systems, production chillers, and kitchen refrigeration equipment.
- Follow established change processes when working on qualified core equipment and components to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and facilities personnel to support overall facility reliability and uptime.
- Work both indoors and outdoors across multiple buildings and areas, adapting to varying conditions while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- 4+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC service experience.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical functions associated with HVAC systems and equipment.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting for split systems and larger commercial systems.
- RTU troubleshooting experience with rooftop units up to 20 tons.
- EPA Universal Certification for handling refrigerants.
- Experience working with boilers, pumps, valves, piping, and filters in a facilities or industrial environment.
- Ability to monitor, adjust, and maintain chilled water and air conditioning equipment and related mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and recording equipment data, interpreting readings, and making appropriate operational adjustments.
- Experience with refrigeration systems and kitchen refrigeration equipment.
- Background in facilities maintenance, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and service-related tasks.
- Ability to follow manufacturing standards and established change processes for core equipment and components.
- Capacity to work a 2nd shift schedule (Monday–Friday, approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) with availability for mandatory weekend overtime about once per month.
- Experience working in large commercial or industrial facilities environments.
- Comfort working in both indoor, temperature-controlled spaces and outdoor areas across a large campus.
- Ability to work in potentially loud environments associated with heavy industrial operations.
- Strong organizational skills for assembling tools and supplies, completing documentation, and maintaining a clean work area.
- Effective communication skills to report equipment issues and collaborate with maintenance leadership and team members.
- Attention to detail when performing tests, rounds, and data analysis on HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to facility procedures and standards.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based onsite across a large, multi-building campus that includes 12 buildings on approximately 1,650 acres and about 2 million square feet of facility space. The engineer works both inside and outside, moving between different buildings and areas as needed. Indoor spaces are very clean and temperature-controlled, providing a comfortable environment for detailed maintenance work. Certain areas can be loud due to heavy automotive industrial operations, and employees should be prepared to work safely in a high-energy, production-focused setting. This is a 2nd shift position, Monday through Friday, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with overtime available and a mandatory weekend day about once a month.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
