Registered Nurse- Vascular Access

The VAT nurse will be responsible for a variety of responsibilities including: performing comprehensive vascular assessments, insert & manage peripheral IV’s/midlines/PICC lines using ultrasound guidance and aseptic technique, respond to VAT consults across ICU, PCU, Med/Surg, Maternal Child Health, and ED, monitor & trouble shoot vascular access devices for patency/infection/mechanical issues, educate patient & staff, maintain accurate documentation, adhere to infection control protocols & hospital policies, participate in quality improvement initiatives, serve as a resource & mentor to nursing staff regarding vascular access best practices, and collaborate with leadership to grow & enhance the hospital’s vascular access program. We prefer this position holder to have a current Vascular Access Certification (VA-BC) and prefer a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with a strong preference in vascular access experience. The VAT RN needs to be proficient in ultra-sound guided vascular access, have the ability to make strong clinical judgements, and have excellent communication skills. Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license. Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. Why Join IU Health?
