\nThe Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is a highly skilled and versatile clinician responsible for delivering exceptional, patient-centered care across a variety of acute care settings. This role supports multiple hospital units-such as Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Procedural areas including Cath Lab Holding and PACU-requiring a high degree of adaptability and clinical expertise. \n

\nThe RN in this role leverages advanced assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and strong technical proficiency to ensure safe and effective care in fast-paced and continually changing environments. As a key contributor to patient outcomes, the Critical Care Float Pool RN demonstrates flexibility, strong critical-thinking abilities, and a commitment to clinical excellence. \n

• Direct Patient Care \n

  • Deliver comprehensive patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across multiple specialty areas.
  \n
  • Provide safe, high-quality care to patients with varying levels of acuity.
  \n
\n
• Emergency & Critical Response \n
  \n
  • Respond promptly to emergent and critical situations, including Code Blue, Rapid Response, trauma activations, and behavioral emergencies.
  \n
  • Apply advanced clinical judgment in fast-paced, high-stress scenarios.
  \n
\n
• Advanced Clinical Therapies & Medication Management \n
  \n
  • Manage complex medical therapies such as ventilators, vasoactive drips, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced cardiac life support equipment.
  \n
  • Safely administer medications, including high-alert medications, chemotherapy, and moderate sedation agents.
  \n
\n
• Procedures & Technical Skills \n
  \n
  • Perform and maintain competency in advanced procedures, including central line care, chest tube management, wound vac therapy, arterial line monitoring, and peritoneal dialysis.
  \n
  • Ensure procedural accuracy and adherence to evidence-based practices.
  \n
\n
• Collaboration & Care Coordination \n
  \n
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to support continuity of care during admissions, transfers, procedures, and discharges.
  \n
  • Communicate effectively to ensure seamless transitions across units.
  \n

  • Adhere to hospital policies regarding patient safety, infection prevention, hazardous drug handling, radiation safety, and equipment use.

  • Provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care, including education, emotional support, and assistance with end-of-life care.

\n Qualifications \n
\n
\n

\n
• Minimum 5 years of acute care nursing experience
\n
• At least 2 years experience in the ICU, ED, or Progressive Care setting
\n
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to multiple clinical settings.
\n
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
\n
• EPIC preferred
\n

• IV Therapy & Vascular Access
\n
\n
• Proficient in IV insertion, phlebotomy, port access, and central line maintenance.
\n
• Competent in managing arterial lines, including setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
\n
\n
• Monitoring & Emergency Equipment
\n
\n
• Skilled in operating and interpreting cardiac monitoring systems.
\n
• Competent with ventilators, defibrillators, rapid infusers, and other emergency response equipment.
\n
• Experienced in managing advanced circulatory support devices such as IABP, Impella, and LVADs.
\n
\n
• Critical Care Clinical Skills
\n
\n
• Proficient in administering and titrating vasoactive infusions and managing complex hemodynamic needs.
\n
• Skilled in ventilator management, including ventilator modes and sedation vacation practices.
\n
• Experienced in conducting neuro assessments, hemodynamic monitoring, and recovery from procedures.
\n
\n
• Procedural & Perioperative Support
\n
\n
• Provides comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedural care.
\n
• Competent in time-outs, sheath removal, patient preparation, and recovery protocols.
\n
\n
• Patient Safety & Risk Prevention
\n
\n
• Knowledgeable in safe patient handling, fall prevention strategies, and suicide precautions.
\n
• Adheres to infection prevention practices and proper restraint techniques according to policy.
\n
\n
• Specialized Therapies
\n
\n
• Competent in managing CRRT , peritoneal dialysis, and wound VAC therapy.
\n
• Skilled in administering and monitoring enteral and parenteral nutrition.
\n
• Utilizes evidence-based pain management modalities.
\n
\n
• Communication & Documentation
\n
\n
• Demonstrates proficiency with EMR charting and accurate clinical documentation.
\n
• Uses structured handoff tools such as SBAR to support safe communication.
\n
• Engages in effective communication through systems like Perfect Serve, ensuring timely updates and critical value reporting.
\n
• Provides clear, empathetic education to patients and families.
\n
