26-27 South Campus Middle School Special Education Teacher

St. Augustine Preparatory Academy

Job Description

Job Description

Middle School Special Education Teacher

Location: Aug Prep South Campus

Schedule: Full-time during 10-month school year

Reports To: Director of Student Services

Desired Start Date: July 2026

More Than a Job, A Mission
Aug Prep is more than a school, it's a community where excellence, faith, and holistic education come together. We’re not only about high standards but also creating a place where people love to grow, learn, and inspire! We currently serve over 2,400 K4-12 students in our ninth year at our South Campus. We are thrilled to launch our North Campus in the 26-27 school year, initially serving about 300 students in grades K4-6 and 9.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Living Faith: Jesus is at the center of all we do. Join a team where you can pray together, worship together, and anchor your work in hope.
  • Award-Winning Workplace: Recognized as a “Best Place to Work” by the Milwaukee Business Journal six times in a row, standing out as the only school on the list in most years!
  • High Expectations that Open Doors: We foster a dynamic culture of growth and development for students and staff alike. Our students regularly surpass expectations on state assessments and our graduates have a 100% college acceptance rate and a cumulative $85million+ in scholarships!
  • Outstanding Resources: From a “classroom supplies” fund to top-notch curriculum to field trips to advanced technology, we shower our team with the tools they need to succeed. Our state-of-the-art facilities include advanced sports complexes, performing arts centers, top-notch classrooms and two swimming pools.
  • Whole-Child Approach: From arts to athletics to character education, we nurture students’ minds, bodies, and souls.
  • Joy Factor: This work is hard, but we work hard to bring JOY in all we do! Things like silly staff competitions, praise and worship sessions, team social events or learning a new skill like pickleball or gardening during a professional development day, we ensure our staff finds JOY with one another too!
  • Benefits: Aug Prep offers a robust benefits package including medical/dental/vision, a 401(k) with employer match and employer-sponsored disability coverage. Full-time employees each receive $2500/year for college courses or professional development. For a more complete list of our benefits, please click HERE.

In This Role, You Will empower students to discover their potential and pursue excellence—academically, personally, and spiritually—through high-quality teaching, individualized support, and authentic care. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional collaborator and team player, have deep knowledge of special education practices, and demonstrate strong proficiency in supporting diverse learners across grade levels. We are particularly interested in educators passionate about working in urban education as part of a high-performing, mission-driven staff. Ideal candidates will also be well versed in strategies that promote metacognitive engagement, differentiated instruction, and inclusive learning. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and demonstrate expertise in developing and implementing individualized plans that meet the needs of each student.

Academics
  • Provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction that supports students’ academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and functional growth in alignment with IEP goals and schoolwide standards.
  • Differentiate instruction using specialized strategies such as multisensory learning, explicit modeling, scaffolded practice, repetition, and targeted interventions to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Adapt and modify grade-level curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to ensure access and meaningful participation for students with disabilities in inclusive and small-group settings.
  • Use student learning data, progress monitoring tools, and formative/summative assessments to guide instructional decisions, track progress toward IEP goals, and adjust supports as needed.
  • Collaborate with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and review individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including IEP progress, service logs, reports, and records while communicating regularly with parents and staff to ensure coordinated support across settings.
Classroom Environment and Student Relationships
  • Integrate character education and/or faith-based values into daily lessons.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior in a consistent and effective manner, promoting courage, respect, integrity, and perseverance through the development and maintenance of positive relationships with students.
  • Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for students, consistently demonstrating God’s love through respectful interactions with students and families.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians about student progress, behavior, and needs.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding all student information.
Professionalism
  • Be open to coaching and feedback to continuously improve teaching practices and support positive student outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to implement instruction with fidelity.
  • Collaborate as a team player and proactively offer solutions as challenges arise throughout the school year.
  • Work closely with colleagues, instructional aides, and support staff to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain positive, solution-oriented relationships with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members to foster an inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Seek continued professional growth through departmental meetings, professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars.
  • Serve as a role model for students by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and positive behavior.
  • Remain open-minded to growth and actively engage in the school community as we continue to expand and evolve.
Schoolwide Support and Supervision
  • Monitor and support students during morning arrival, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
  • Serve with a flexible, open heart, recognizing that no duty is outside the scope of your role as we work together in service of our students.
  • Travel between the K–8 and high school buildings as needed to provide instruction.

What We’re Looking For

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • A bachelor’s degree and a valid K–12 Special Education teaching certification are required, along with any necessary accreditation requirements. A master’s degree is a plus, and a state teaching license is not required.
  • Active participation in a Christian church community.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong collaborative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Demonstrates strong multitasking skills, supports students’ emotional needs with empathy, contributes as a collaborative team member, and remains flexible during schedule changes or unexpected shifts.
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model.
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Experience supporting diverse learners and implementing effective interventions.
    • Knowledge of universal design for learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.

*This describes general information about the position, however, should not be considered comprehensive. Aug Prep reserves the right to modify job duties or descriptions at any time.
