Armory Program Assistant - Community Recreation (Part-time Temporary Position) 2026 Work hours during school months include Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm–7:00 pm. Position may continue through the summer with different hours (10:00 am–6:00 pm). Opportunities for weekend work may be available to assist with building monitoring during rentals, other activities, and special events. The facility attendant will report to the Recreation Supervisor. This individual will be in a leadership role of an assigned recreational area and serve as a mentor to the youth at the facility. The position is expected to supervise, instruct, and participate in Community Recreation programs and activities, assist in organizing recreational activities, be responsible for equipment and supplies used in the assigned area, and maintain accurate attendance records. This position will ensure the safety of patrons, enforce rules of the facility, and provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Employees work under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, and their work is subject to frequent inspection and review by supervisory personnel through meetings and attendance reports. Other duties may be performed as needed or assigned by supervisor. Temporary/Seasonal employees do not qualify for sick, holiday, or vacation pay. Paychecks are issued bi‑weekly. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Ability to work with youth in various program activities Participates in planning and organizing recreational activities Has knowledge of, or ability to learn, the principles, rules, material, and equipment required for a variety of recreational activities Has knowledge of, or ability to learn, rules and equipment associated with the sport or activity taking place Has the ability to receive and give routine instructions Able to calmly resolve disputes with firmness, fairness, and impartiality Able to communicate with people of all age groups and large groups Able to run, jump, bend, and stoop to participate in athletic activities Able to lift and carry supplies/equipment up to 50 lbs Able to perform other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor Must follow the established dress code Ability to work evenings and weekends Starting Salary: $15 per hour The City of Columbia participates in the federal E-Verify work authorization program and requires pre‑employment drug testing.
