PRN Respiratory Therapist II - Non-NICU @ Cobb Hospital

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple‑problem patient situations, primarily within critical care areas, using protocol ventilator management and significant independent decision‑making. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II provides patient, family, and support system education, coordinates activities, contributes to staff development, and engages in professional and self‑developmental activities. The RT II also collaborates with new employees and others in their education. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides customer service and completes patient care, documentation, and education. Approaches service through a team‑based mindset, promoting a team spirit and a positive work environment. Provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care by performing patient assessment and preparing for therapy. Collaborates with health‑care team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Manages ventilator settings, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management, including intubation, extubation, trach‑tube change, and care. Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Promotes patient safety initiatives such as Medication Safety and NPSG. Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promotes evidence‑based practice and reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications NBRC-RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP – Respiratory Care Prof BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor Required Minimum Experience 0–2 years of clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Ability to communicate well. Critical thinking skills. Establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals.
