Department Name: Integrative Structural and Computational Biology Position Type: Position Type: Full Time Position Title Position Title Postdoctoral Associate Position Summary: Research Associates are appointed positions for the purpose of developing scholarly competence, working under the supervision of a TSRI Faculty member. These appointments are normally not renewed beyond a total of six years. Research Associates cannot apply for external funding either as a Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator without prior approval from a Departmental Chair. Research Associates do not have consulting privileges. Location: Location: California Additional Information: An NIH -funded postdoctoral position is available for highly motivated candidates to study the evolution of HIV -1 broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) in natural infection, and to develop HIV -1 vaccine immunogens for in vivo evaluation, in the laboratory of Prof. Jiang Zhu, Department of Immunology and Microbial Science, Department of Structural and Computational Biology, and Scripps Center for HIV / AIDS Vaccine Immunology & Immunogen Discovery ( CHAVI -ID), The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA. Potential projects may involve (1) isolating HIV -1 neutralizing antibodies from patient samples or immunized animal samples using single-cell technologies and next-generation sequencing ( NGS ); (2) determining the lineage patterns of HIV -1 neutralizing antibodies longitudinally during infection and vaccination; (3) computationally designing & optimizing HIV -1 immunogens including epitope-scaffolds, gp140 trimers, and nanoparticles; (4) analyzing immunized animal samples with various assays to evaluate HIV -1-specific B-cell responses and protection. Physical Requirements: This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Basic Qualifications: Must possess a doctoral degree. A pending doctoral degree may be considered with approval of the Principal Investigator. Preferred Qualifications: Successful candidates will have a recent Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, immunology, and vaccinology. Training in animal immunization or prior experience with antibody and vaccine research will be a plus.
