Substitute School Nurse – Sioux Falls School District Our School Nurses play a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and success of students each day. The nursing team works collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community healthcare providers to ensure students are healthy, supported, and ready to learn. School nurses in the Sioux Falls School District do far more than care for bumps and bruises – they provide compassionate care, manage student health needs, promote wellness, respond to emergencies, and build trusted relationships that help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Key Responsibilities & Qualifications Valid South Dakota Registered Nurse license required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics and/or community health. Experience working with diabetes, seizures, tracheostomies, and other childhood medical conditions desired. The substitute school nurse must have availability and flexibility to work when called Mon‑Fri between 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (often the day of the need). Assignments may be in any school across the district, working with a variety of student needs. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. Post‑Offer Criminal Background Check Required. Compensation and Working Hours Rate: $36.42 per hour. Pay Day: last working day of each month based on the payroll cutoff schedule. Monday through Friday, may be called as early as 6:30 am, with coverage from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
