About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15) Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty License: Compact or state license required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - CPI (as needed for specific roles) - NIHSS (as needed for specific roles) Must-Have: - Telemetry experience - Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias - Experience with central line, PICC line, and IV management Description: Please ensure the traveler understands the expectations associated with this assignment. Upon accepting the role, the unit manager may assign the traveler to an "Emergency Team." There may be an expectation to remain on-site until emergency situations pass. Travelers must be comfortable with this assignment expectation. The unit accommodates nurses with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, and syncope. There is always potential for medical-surgical overflow, including cases such as gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, cerebrovascular accidents, and COVID-19 positive patients. Special procedures in the unit may include pre/post catheterization lab care, pacemaker and automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator management, ablations, and various vascular surgeries. The unit involves titration of cardiac drips and bedside sheath removal. Staff may be required to float to different inpatient units as needed. Specific scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed. The unit operates with a patient ratio of 6:1 for day and night shifts. Weekend coverage is required, and staffing is adjusted as needed. Interdisciplinary support is available from physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy among others. Staffing requires knowledge and experience in wound care, isolation precautions, and various clinical protocols. This role requires effective communication and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care.
