About the role Job Title : Senior Quantity Surveyor Location : Inverness / Elgin / North of Scotland Company : Balfour Beatty – Scotland UKCS Project : ASTI Tracks About the Project Balfour Beatty is delivering a key part of the ASTI (Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment) programme — a major national infrastructure initiative upgrading and expanding Scotland’s electrical transmission network to support renewable energy growth, improve grid resilience and enable long-term decarbonisation. Within this, ASTI Tracks represents the civils delivery arm of the programme — providing the enabling infrastructure that allows major transmission upgrades to be built and maintained across the North and North East of Scotland. Works include large-scale, multi-site civils delivery such as: Access road construction and enabling works Large earthworks and civil engineering packages Works supporting overhead line and cable routes Operating as a fast-paced, high-value framework, this programme involves multiple work fronts, complex interfaces and a strong emphasis on commercial control, risk management and delivery at scale. About the Role We are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of ASTI Transmission civils projects. You’ll play a central role in shaping commercial strategy, managing subcontractors, forecasting financial performance and ensuring robust contractual governance across a complex, multi-site programme. Working closely with engineering, construction and delivery teams, you’ll help drive commercial excellence across one of Scotland’s most significant infrastructure investments. Key Responsibilities Lead commercial and contractual management of civils and earthworks packages Develop and deliver commercial strategies aligned to programme objectives Manage cost reporting, forecasting and valuations Identify, price and agree variations in line with contract requirements Maintain accurate records to support change management and claims Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation and administration Manage subcontract accounts in line with contractual termsMonitor cash flow and support applications for payment Support project teams with progress reporting and risk identification Ensure compliance with governance, HSE and commercial standards Who we're looking for Essential Strong civils infrastructure background Experience across earthworks, groundworks, drainage and civils packages Knowledge of NEC or similar contracts Experience managing subcontract procurement and accounts Strong commercial, analytical and IT skills Ability to measure and value complex works Strong communication and negotiation skills Desirable Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, ICE or similar) Experience within energy or transmission infrastructure Commercially sharp, proactive and comfortable working across multiple sites in a fast‑moving programme environment Benefits Be part of a nationally significant infrastructure programme driving decarbonisation Work across a diverse, multi‑site portfolio in Scotland Clear development pathways and support toward chartership Competitive salary and benefits package Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow. 25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rate) Family friendly policies which include 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partner leave Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and much more Disability Confident Employer Balfour Beatty is a Disability Confident Employer and encourages applications from people with disabilities and long‑term health conditions.
