Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior/Lead Workday Financials Technical Developer for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong Workday Financial Management knowledge and extensive experience developing integrations, APIs and custom Workday Extend solutions.

The successful candidate will support Workday Financials across General Ledger, Expenses and Source-to-Pay. The consultant must understand Finance business processes and accounting data flows but remain highly technical and hands-on.

This is not a purely functional or high-level architecture position. The selected candidate will be expected to design, code, test, deploy, troubleshoot and support Workday technical solutions within a large enterprise Finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Workday Development and Integrations

• Design, develop, test, deploy and support complex Workday integrations using Workday Studio, Orchestrate, EIB, Core Connectors and Cloud Connectors.

• Develop and maintain custom applications and solutions using Workday Extend.

• Build API-driven integrations using Workday REST and SOAP web services.

• Develop inbound and outbound integrations between Workday Financials and banking platforms, procurement applications, expense systems, ERP applications and other third-party systems.

• Develop data transformations using XML, JSON and XSLT.

• Build and maintain calculated fields, integration mappings and supporting Workday reports.

• Troubleshoot integration failures, API errors, data issues and performance problems across development, testing and production environments.

• Implement exception handling, monitoring, reconciliation and restart capabilities for critical financial integrations.

• Support integration security, authentication and Workday security-domain requirements.

Workday Financials

• Provide hands-on technical and techno-functional support across:

• General Ledger

• Expenses

• Source-to-Pay

• Supplier Accounts

• Procurement

• Financial accounting and posting integrations

Additional responsibilities include:

• Ensure integrations and Workday Extend solutions align with Finance transaction flows, accounting structures and Workday data models.

• Build and support API-based financial transactions and accounting postings into the General Ledger.

• Troubleshoot Workday Financials transactions, integration events, accounting data and downstream reconciliation issues.

• Partner with Finance, Accounting, Procurement and Finance IT stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Support month-end and quarter-end financial processes when integration or reporting assistance is required.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as the technical lead and subject-matter expert for Workday Financials integrations and Workday Extend development.

• Own technical solution design while remaining fully hands-on throughout development and production support.

• Review code, integration designs, data mappings and technical documentation.

• Establish reusable development patterns and technical standards.

• Mentor and provide technical direction to other Workday developers.

• Collaborate with architects, project managers, functional consultants and business stakeholders.

• Identify opportunities to improve automation, performance, monitoring and integration stability.

• Evaluate new Workday capabilities and recommend solutions that improve Finance operations.

• Development Lifecycle and Production Support

• Participate in the complete development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, technical design, development, unit testing, SIT, UAT, deployment and post-production support.

• Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents involving Workday Financials integrations and custom applications.

• Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective solutions.

• Maintain technical designs, integration specifications, data mappings, runbooks and support documentation.

• Support Workday release testing and evaluate enhancements involving Financials, Extend, APIs and Orchestrate.

• Coordinate with Workday Support and third-party vendors when necessary.

Required Qualifications

1. Five or more years of hands-on Workday technical development experience.

2. Strong hands-on experience developing applications and custom solutions using Workday Extend.

3. Advanced Workday integration experience using Studio, Orchestrate, EIB, Core Connectors and Cloud Connectors.

4. Strong experience developing and consuming Workday REST and SOAP APIs.

5. Workday Financial Management experience across General Ledger, Expenses and Source-to-Pay.

6. Strong understanding of Finance transaction flows, accounting structures and Workday Financials data models.

7. Strong technical skills with XML, JSON and XSLT.

8. Experience building integrations between Workday Financials and banks, procurement platforms, expense systems, ERP applications and other third-party systems.

9. Experience troubleshooting complex integration and production-support issues.

10. Ability to independently own technical design, development, deployment and support.

11. Experience working within a large enterprise Finance organization.

12. Strong communication, documentation and stakeholder-management skills.

13. Ability to work onsite four days per week in Columbus, Dallas or the Greater Minneapolis area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing BIRT reports, checks, invoices or other Workday Financials document outputs.

• Workday certifications in Integrations, Financial Management, Extend or related areas.

• Experience supporting regulated, highly integrated or large-scale enterprise environments.

• Experience leading technical Workday development teams.

• Experience with banking, payment, procurement and accounting integrations.

• Previous contract-to-hire experience followed by successful conversion.

Important Requirements

• This is a senior hands-on technical development position, not a purely functional role.

• Candidates must have substantive Workday Financials experience; Workday HCM-only integration experience is insufficient.

• Candidates must have hands-on Workday Extend development experience.

• Candidates must be available to work onsite four days per week in one of the approved locations.
