School Bus Driver

This position comes with a sign-on bonus that pays up to $2,500 This is a benefit-eligible position that includes:

• Employee-funded 403(b) retirement plan SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None. SUMMARY Responsible for operating a school bus and transporting school-aged children and other authorized personnel safely. May be assigned to Head Start routes, Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) routes, paratransit routes, special trips, or other transportation services based on operational needs and the employee's qualifications, licenses, certifications, and training. Assist in the fulfillment of the Organization's vision and mission. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Safely transports students and authorized staff between designated pick-up and drop-off locations, including school routes, Head Start routes, field trips, special events, and other approved destinations. Supervises, guides, coaches, and assists passengers during loading and unloading and ensures they follow all applicable passenger-safety and conduct requirements. Operates all school bus safety equipment properly, including warning lights, stop arms, emergency exits, and passenger doors. Conducts required post-trip inspections to confirm that no child or passenger remains aboard the vehicle. Complies with all federal and state laws, regulations, certification requirements, and organization procedures applicable to the operation of a school bus and the transportation of students. Provides routine operational support at assigned Head Start sites during non-driving periods. Duties may include organizing or preparing program areas, restocking supplies, moving or arranging toys and equipment, light cleaning, and other site-support activities as assigned. Safely operates assigned organization vehicles to transport passengers and staff between designated pickup and drop-off locations, including regular routes, field trips, special events, and other approved destinations. Performs assigned school bus, para-transit, relief, standby, or other transportation duties based on operational needs and applicable licensing and qualification requirements. When not assigned to an active route or trip, remains available in a standby or relief capacity and performs other transportation or operational duties as directed. Ensures all passengers are properly seated and secured before operating the vehicle. Safely operates wheelchair lifts and other accessibility equipment when loading and unloading passengers. Ensures wheelchairs, mobility devices, and related equipment are properly secured before the vehicle is moved. Conducts required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle in accordance with federal and state requirements and organization procedures. Inspects brakes, lights, horn, emergency equipment, doors, wheelchair lifts, and other vehicle systems to ensure the vehicle can be operated safely. Completes and submits required vehicle inspection, condition, mileage, trip, and other operational reports accurately and timely. Immediately reports mechanical problems, safety concerns, vehicle damage, accidents, incidents, or needed repairs. Collects and reports required information following an accident or incident. Maintains the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle to support safe operation and passenger comfort. Maintains a safe and orderly environment aboard the vehicle by enforcing passenger conduct requirements and responding appropriately to emergencies. Operates assigned vehicles safely in varying traffic, weather, road, and terrain conditions. Uses two-way radios, tablets, GPS, dispatch software, and other assigned communication or navigation equipment. Reads, interprets, and follows maps, route manifests, schedules, written directions, and electronic navigation instructions. Maintains professional and cooperative relationships with passengers, students, parents, caregivers, schoolsite personnel, activity-center staff, members of the public, and organization employees. Uses approved cleaning products, supplies, hand tools, equipment, and safety devices in accordance with applicable instructions and training. Attends required training, safety meetings, first-aid instruction, and other mandatory meetings. Travels for work-related business using a personal or organization vehicle. EXPERIENCE: Must have previous experience driving with a commercial A or B license with Air Brakes, Passenger (P)/School Bus Endorsement (S). Six months of experience is preferred. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 21 years of age. Possess and maintain a valid commercial A or B license with Air Brakes, Passenger (P)/School Bus Endorsement (S). CPR and First Aid training required within six months of hire. Ability to operate a tablet or other mobile device and use GPS navigation, dispatch software, and related applications required to perform assigned duties. Pass required drug and alcohol testing prior to employment; will be subject to continual urine and breath testing throughout employment. Pass required background investigation including medical examination and TB clearance, acceptable criminal record statement, Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, and child abuse index clearance. Maintain a valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance in compliance with state law, and meet the organization's insurance requirements for operating organization vehicles.
