Creative Designer- Interior

Job Description The Role: Are you a highly creative design individual who is interested in being part of one of the most exciting design studios in the world? Based in Warren, Michigan, where the fusion of Art, Design and Technology come together, General Motors North America has exciting opportunities for creative designers in many areas of the organization across our Advanced and Production studios including interiors, exteriors, components, accessories, lighting and product. As a Creative Designer at GM, you will be part of a larger, connected, global design team working on forward‑thinking, extraordinary elements in production design. You will research, design and create proposals that demonstrate innovative concepts, from inception to implementation, for automotive and mobility applications. Your work will focus on the customer experience in interiors for GM brands, generating concepts in both 2D and 3D proposals, refining ideas with feedback, and coordinating the work of other design personnel while collaborating with multiple partners to achieve design goals. Responsibilities Create unique interior designs and concepts for production vehicles through 2-D and 3-D sketches, visualizations via animations, and collaboration with clay and digital sculpting. Collaborate frequently with the design team, sculpting organization, engineering and fabrication teams in the development of new designs. Take a big‑picture perspective on customer needs and future transportation, creating provocative concepts and designs. Provide insight and recommendations to leadership while being willing and able to act upon guidance in a deadline‑driven environment. Maintain knowledge of current design trends and technology and present ideas frequently to management and leadership to communicate design concepts. Exhibit courage and challenge expectations. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Design (Automotive, Transportation, Industrial, etc.). 2+ years of professional experience in a design‑related field; automotive experience strongly desired. Strong understanding of form and excellent drawing skills. Proven creative proficiency. Demonstrated ability with electronic tools to communicate 2-D ideations. Ability to work independently and within a team, and ability to provide mentoring. A portfolio that includes several series of sketches and ideations.
