Position Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is the support administrative person for the project. The APM is responsible for supporting and often leading project start-up, scheduling, billing, contract interpretation, contract claims, subcontractor dispute resolution, submittals, extra work, cost control, and financial reporting. The APM will assist the PM as lead planner on the project conducting regular meetings to review past, present, and future costs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes safety, quality, efficiency, and core values
  • Works directly with the lead and other project managers to ensure all projects are delivered on time, within the scope, and within budget
  • Prepares submittals, RFIs, and permits
  • Assists with change orders, field orders, change conditions, delay notices, etc.
  • Assists in leading planning meetings; attends and generates meeting minutes for progress meetings
  • Generates the cost to complete reports
  • Review shop drawings
  • Review proposed subcontractor and vendor payments
  • Tracks materials used on the job; monitors labor costs; approves subcontractor invoicing; generates purchase orders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • ProfessionalCertification
    • FE/EIT preferred, but not required
  • Experience
    • Minimum of three years in heavy civil construction or related fields
  • Requirements/Competencies
    • Basic knowledge of contract documents and contract-specific dispute resolution procedures
    • Experience dealing with subcontractors and vendors
    • Proficient written and verbal skills, attention to detail
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, P6, and Viewpoint software
    • Proactive, self-motivating, problem-solver
  • Valid Driver's License Required
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The majority of the work is performed in a non-smoking office. The work primarily takes place indoors. However, there may be outdoor fieldwork and travel, which could be a significant part of the role. Depending on the project, department, or business demands, overnight stays may be expected.

Employees must have the ability to:
  • Sit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally bend, twist, squat, and kneel
  • Occasionally walk up and down the stairs
  • Demonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision
  • Demonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing
  • Must be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
