Behavioral Health Consultant

Responsibilities Provide consultation services to maximize return-to-work outcomes and duration of claims by providing understanding of medical documentation. Develop analysts and team members by sharing medical knowledge. Independently provide behavioral health consultative services to claims staff with information and tools to assist with claim decisions, clearly noting the rationale used to determine suggested direction. Make appropriate decisions when to leverage external resources (IME, Peer review) and develop questions to include as necessary. Contact claimant or Attending Physician when appropriate for interview regarding condition, symptoms, functionality, treatment plan and clarification of restrictions if needed. Impact claims facilitation with internal and external customers by providing accurate, concise and timely written and verbal communications. Maintain a high level of knowledge of behavioral health conditions and recovery periods to consistently and effectively coach and develop staff. Maximize team performance by developing claims staff through sharing knowledge and information learned from CEU seminars. Have general knowledge of STD and LTD policy provisions to ensure appropriate direction of consultative services. Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required. Qualifications Education & Licensure: One of the following is required: Master’s degree or equivalent with a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) designation, having an active license in good standing and 2+ years of relevant professional experience; or Registered Nurse (RN) with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, having an active RN license in good standing and 2+ years of relevant professional experience. 2+ years’ experience in disability claims is preferred. Business unit and company product knowledge is preferred. Ability to provide court testimony of industrial hearings. Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, analytical, presentation, and communication skills. Accurate and detail oriented. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Travel may be required, including overnight stays. We are not considering candidates that require immigration sponsorship at this time. Benefits Salary Range: $69,300 - $126,000 per year (geographically specific ranges vary). Flexible Time Off (FTO) available to salaried employees; paid vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Pension eligibility: Yes. Work Environment: Offers in‑office, hybrid (at least three office days per typical workweek), and remote work arrangements.
