Animal Control Officer

Job Title: Animal Control Officer Department: Public Works/Animal Control Reports To: Animal Control Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt SUMMARY Captures and impounds unlicensed, stray, and uncontrolled animals by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this job . Snares animal with net, rope, or device. May dart animals when necessary and appropriate. Cages or secures animal in truck. Drives truck to shelter. Removes animal from truck to shelter cage or other enclosure. Supplies food, water, and personal care to detained animals. Cleans and helps maintain the Shelter facility. Reports complaints of animal bite cases and works with Police Department to investigate. Assists in the euthanization and postmortem handling of rabid animals as directed and with the supervision of a Veterinarian and in accordance with State law. Assists in the euthanization (if necessary) of unclaimed or injured animals by a Veterinarian but only at the direction of the Director or Examines captured animals for injuries and delivers injured animals to Veterinarian for medical treatment. Helps maintain files regarding animals impounded and disposition of each. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE Special Requirements EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF SOUTHAVEN REQUIRES:
- A satisfactory check of references.
- A medical examination may be required and may be considered before any appointment can be finalized; and may require a laboratory test for alcohol and substance abuse.
- Federal law requires that the selected candidate provide proof of identity and employment eligibility. (E-VERIFY)
