\n Under the guidance of the Supervisor and leadership team, conducts a wide range of laboratory tests to gather essential data for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases in a medical center.\n
\n
Responsibilities \n
\n
Departmental Support: \n
\n
\n

\n
• Conducts, directs, or assists in special projects, evaluations, or research initiatives.
\n
• Participates in scheduled cross-training rotations while demonstrating ongoing competency across various sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
\n
• Contributes to the enhancement of organizational performance by identifying areas for improvement, recommending effective methodologies for improvement initiatives, executing new procedures, collecting relevant data, and offering input during departmental discussions.
\n
• Engages in the establishment of job requirements and goals and perform all duties at an expected level of competency.
\n

\n
Technical Skills and Knowledge: \n
\n
\n

\n
• Demonstrates the necessary skills to independently conduct a variety of laboratory tests, showing proficiency in each area.
\n
• Efficiently operates laboratory instruments while performing checks, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting according to established written guidelines.
\n
• Contributes to Quality Control procedures by accurately performing and reporting results, as well as identifying any discrepancies in Quality Control.
\n
• Facilitates the preparation of samples for analysis and ensures proper storage and preservation of specimens.
\n
• Assists in preparing reagents and monitors supply inventories, managing stock supplies as needed.
\n
• Performs registration and sample collection as required by the location.
\n
• Engages in routine procedures relevant to the discipline, including data collection and analysis that may impact patient care decisions.
\n
• Collaborates on the development of new procedures and the enhancement of existing ones.
\n
• After achieving proficiency in both basic and some advanced skills, provides training to bench personnel and students in laboratory procedures.
\n
• May serve as a subject matter expert for the laboratory information system as needed and train staff where applicable.

• Maintains currency in the field, including any required licenses or certifications by engaging in continued education, attending conferences, meetings, in-services, networking opportunities, literature reviews, or seminars.

Qualifications \n
\n
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: \n
\n
\n
\n
Required \n
\n
\n
\n
\nBachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or\n
\n
\n
\n
\nAssociate's degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; or\n
\n
\n
\n
\nEquivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b)(3)(ii) (see NOTE 2); or \n
\n
\n
\n
\nSuccessful completion of at least a 50 week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).\n
\n
\n
\n
Preferred \n
\n
\n
\n
\nCompletion of certification/licensure requirements that meet CLIA/CAP requirements for the performance of high complexity testing \n
\n
\n
\n
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: \n
\n
\n
\n
\nNo experience required; 2 years of experience preferred. \n
\n
\n
\n
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: \n
\n
\n
\n
\nKnowledge of laboratory operations; familiarity with laboratory departments, functions, and processes; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; PC word processing, and spreadsheet skills. \n
\n
\n
\n
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)or certification through other national certifying agency preferred.
