Grounds Maintenance Worker

We are seeking a reliable, experienced Grounds Maintenance Worker to join a government-operated facility. This is a hands-on outdoor position focused primarily on operating a Zero Turn lawn mower and other grounds-maintenance equipment, along with general labour and property-maintenance duties. This is not an entry-level lawn-mowing position. The ideal candidate will have practical experience operating commercial-grade mowing equipment, be comfortable performing physical outdoor work, and demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and professional attitude. The successful temporary worker will have the opportunity to be considered for permanent employment after approximately 3 months, based on performance, reliability, conduct, and the employer's hiring requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a Zero Turn commercial lawn mower safely and efficiently
• Operate other grounds-maintenance machinery and equipment as required
• Perform general grounds keeping and outdoor labour duties
• Mow, trim, maintain and clean landscaped and turf areas
• Assist with seasonal grounds-maintenance tasks
• Load, unload, move and organize materials and equipment
• Maintain equipment and report any mechanical or safety concerns
• Follow all workplace safety procedures and instructions
• Perform other general labour duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate must demonstrate:

• Previous experience operating a Zero Turn mower
• Experience with commercial or professional grounds-maintenance equipment
• General landscaping, grounds keeping or outdoor labour experience
• Good knowledge of safe equipment operation
• Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
• A positive, professional attitude
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
• Good judgment and awareness of workplace safety
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Ability to work comfortably under supervision, including being supervised by managers or supervisors who may be younger than you

Important Attendance Requirement: Reliability and punctuality are extremely important for this position. The scheduled shift begins at 7:00 AM, but the worker is expected to arrive at the facility early — ideally around 6:15 AM — to allow sufficient time to pass through security and be ready to start work on time. Security procedures at the facility can occasionally cause delays at the entrance. Arriving at 7:00 AM is not considered arriving on time if you have not yet cleared security and reported for work. Candidates must be dependable and understand the importance of arriving early enough to account for potential security delays.

• A valid driver's license is required
• Candidates must successfully complete the required security/background screening (done after the interview)
• Candidates with a criminal record are not eligible for this position
• Candidates must successfully pass the required screening before beginning employment
