Occupational Health and Safety Management System Auditor

The Office of Safety, Health, and Environment is seeking a Occupational Health and Safety Management System Auditor to plan, manage, and execute OHSMS auditing assignments across diverse operational environments. This role ensures compliance with federal hiring regulations and enhances workforce quality. Responsibilities include ISO 19011 audits, safety trend research, and findings presentations. In order to qualify at the ZA-III level, applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 (ZA-II at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined as:

1. Conducted and led formal OHSMS audits against ISO 45001 following ISO 19011 guidelines across high-hazard laboratory, research, facility, shop, and office environments.
2. Applied federal occupational safety and health standards (e.g., 29 CFR 1904, 1910, 1926, and 1960) and Executive Orders to identify hazards, assess risk controls, and evaluate regulatory compliance.
3. Evaluated systemic risks, root causes, and program non-conformances to prepare executive-level audit reports and data-driven findings for senior leadership.
4. Tracked and verified the effectiveness of corrective action plans and program self-evaluations to ensure continuous compliance with internal, state, and federal mandates.

Selective Placement Factor: Must possess a valid ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
