SIGN ON BONUS $3,000 Supervisor of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Plans, supports, and implements specific treatment programs for individual clients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy and according to the orders coordinated with a licensed physician. Supports and manages a strong therapy assistant team.

Salary Range : $85,000 - $100,000

SIGNON Bonus : $3,000

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ARE:

ž Appropriately evaluates (initially and periodically throughout care) client in areas of range of motion/flexibility; postural alignment, muscle strength and endurance; sensation, reflexes, neurovascular status; soft tissue, bony palpation, passive joint mobilization; body mechanics and work efficiency; wound care; cardiopulmonary function; sitting and standing balance; mobility and gait training; and safety.

ž Develops and implements appropriate treatment programs to address problems identified; develops realistic personal goals with client; re-evaluates, sets new goals, and adjusts treatment program accordingly.

ž Treats clients to develop or restore function and maintain maximum performance using physical means such as: therapeutic exercise, range of motion, coordination exercise, balance exercise, gait and transfer training with various weight bearing, prosthetic training, modalities, and others.

ž Advises, consults, and instructs appropriate treatment procedures, therapeutic exercise and supportive activities to clients, family members and other home health team members.

ž Assesses need for adaptive and durable medical equipment. Instructs clients, family members and other home health team members in the care and use of the equipment. Develops needed plans for modifying equipment/appliances and physical surroundings in the home to enhance safety.

ž Observes, records and reports to physician and/or supervisor, client's reaction to treatment, client's progress, and any changes in client's condition.

ž Assists client and family with community resources needed to adjust to physical, mental, and social limitations.

ž Coordinates other service team members, both in formal and informal care conferences, to assure sufficient flow of information to support care of client.

ž Informs client, family, and physician verbally and in writing as needed regarding plan of care, progress, or changes and pending discharge.

ž Provides accurate and timely documentation of care in accordance with agency policy and pay source requirements.

ž Meets regulatory agency and/or pay source requirements regarding patient care.

ž Effectively manages a caseload as established by agency.

ž Participates, as requested, in orientation of new staff, in-service education, continuing education, utilization review and QI/QA programs.


ž Uses agency approved software to enter evaluations and visit documentation.

OTHER DUTIES: Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ARE:

ž Supervision of 4 full-time assistants

žEach assistant completing 25 visits per week


žSupervisor to accept all clients accepted by assistant in designated territory


žDirectly observing each assistant 1x per month


žMaintaining between 5-10 personal client visits per week


ž Completion of additional weekly visits when the supervisor does not have 4 full time assistants


ž Coverage when family requests another clinician


ž Coverage for clinicians on PTO


ž Building caseload for upcoming assistants and new hires


ž Multiple evening openings a week and some weekend availability


ž Meeting with assistants


ž Bi-weekly for first 60 days


ž Monthly after 60 days


ž Assistants paid meeting rate for these meetings


ž Completion of all documentation within 48 hours


ž Cosigning notes


ž Completion of LMNs, HEPs, Equipment evaluations within 7-10 days


ž Monthly one on one with TCM


ž Training of new clinicians


ž Competency visits


ž First eval with new clinician


ž Additional duties as assigned when low caseload/workload


ž CEU presentation


ž Special projects (event coordination, handouts, crafts, etc)


ž Wings


ž OT/PT discipline specific meetings


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Pediatric and Home health experience preferred.

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:


ž Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, professional journals, and legal documents.


OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (cont.)

ž Ability to read and interpret physicians' orders and notes from other caregivers as well as respond to them verbally and in writing.


ž Ability to effectively present information to clients and employees and community.


ž Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.


ž Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and volume.


ž Ability to gauge distances.


ž Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


ž Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to improvise in a home setting.


ž Ability to send/receive emails and use the internet for research and informational purposes.


ž Ability to use MS Excel to create a spreadsheet with minimal instruction.


ž Ability to use MS Word for communication and documentation purposes.


ž Ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information.

ž Skill to attend to multiple tasks at once which are time sensitive.

ž Knowledge of principles and scope of occupational therapy.


ž Thorough knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice, home health care practice, communication skills, case management, and psychomotor skills.


ž Basic knowledge of Windows operating system and ability to advance computer skills as required.

ž Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public, and supervisors.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


ž Active state Occupational Therapist license;


ž Current CPR certification;


ž Current TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter, if applicable;


ž Possession of a valid state Driver's License with reliable transportation and applicable car insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


ž Ability to regularly sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, balance, crouch, crawl, push, pull, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.


ž Ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel.


ž Ability to occasionally climb and use sense of smell.


ž Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.

ž Ability to perform the anticipated level of physical assist required to provide safe client care. If the anticipated level of assist is greater than that which the employee can safely provide, the supervisor is to be notified immediately.


ž Ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.

ž Ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


ž The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.


ž The work environment is highly variable, as care is provided in private homes.


ž Lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature and environmental hazards are not predictable.


ž The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, household pets/animals, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.


ž The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate.

TRAVEL:


The employee is required to travel frequently to complete home health visits . There are occasional trips to locations outside the county. FREQUENT TRAVEL TO CANON CITY, PUEBLO, PUEBLO WEST, PEYTON, CO.
