Accounting Manager

Madison JQH 1221 John Q Hammons Drive Madison, WI 53717, USA SVA is looking for a Manager to join our Real Estate team in Madison, WI. The Manager will collaborate with an experienced and diverse team of professionals, leveraging accounting expertise to support affordable housing and real estate clients, including Low‑Income Housing Tax Credit entities. Overview The Manager acts as a liaison between principals, clients, and accounting staff, overseeing moderate to complex assurance and tax engagements. Responsibilities include workflow planning, regulatory compliance, and business‑impact decisions. The role requires expertise in LIHTC compliance, partnership taxation, and affordable housing reporting. 60% Client Work Execute affordable housing and LIHTC audit and tax engagements from planning through final review. Track budget, time, and schedule to ensure quality and timeliness. Supervise preparation of all client deliverables. Maintain continuous contact with developers, owners, managers, syndicators, and nonprofit organizations. Serve as primary contact for new client onboarding. Evaluate internal controls developed by staff. Communicate major issues and recommendations to the In‑Charge. Prepare monthly billings and maintain confidentiality of client information. Meet typical work hours of 55 hours/week during busy seasons and 40–45 hours/week during other periods. Advise clients on affordable housing compliance and reporting for HUD, RD, and state agencies. Perform other duties as assigned. 30% Supervision and Leadership Assign work based on staff expertise and capacity. Prepare and discuss performance evaluations. Provide training and constructive feedback on work papers. Lead staff development, conduct stay interviews, and address retention themes. Identify recruitment needs and participate in interviews. Transfer client relationships to junior staff as appropriate. Manage low performers through direct conversations. Offer meaningful recognition and establish career pathways. Align staff with firm strategy and communicate the rationale. 10% Professional, Personal and Business Development Collaborate with a mentor to advance career path. Research complex topics and present findings concisely. Participate in SVA and community events, professional and civic organizations. Engage in business associations and external learning opportunities. Refine project management skills and mentor multiple accounting staff. Expand services, develop business consulting acumen, and deliver internal/external training. Lead moderate to complex internal projects and network with COIs. Achieve client retention, cross‑selling, and upselling goals. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (required). Minimum 5 years of public accounting experience, including work with affordable housing, real estate, and/or LIHTC clients. CPA license (required). Knowledge of partnership taxation, affordable housing accounting, LIHTC compliance, and real estate financial reporting preferred. Familiarity with HUD, RD, and state housing authority reporting requirements preferred. Role is based in Wisconsin. SVA is certified as a Great Workplace by the Great Place to Work® institute.
