The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA implements treatment plans, documents patient progress, and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care while helping residents achieve greater independence and improved functional abilities.

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA implements treatment plans, documents patient progress, and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care while helping residents achieve greater independence and improved functional abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver individualized physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist.
- Follow physician orders and established treatment plans.
- Modify treatment activities based on patient progress as directed.
- Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
- Participate in discharge planning and community mobility planning.
- Recommend appropriate durable medical equipment (DME) to improve patient independence.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Complete billing records in a timely manner.
- Ensure treatments comply with state regulations and organizational policies.
- Respond promptly to patient and family concerns.
- Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Help maintain a safe treatment environment.
- Report and prevent resident abuse or neglect.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Education
- Associate's Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Active and unrestricted Physical Therapist Assistant license in the state of practice.
- Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience preferred.
- State-approved certification for advanced-level treatments, where applicable.
Candidates should possess:
- Strong understanding of physical therapy practices and treatment techniques.
- Ability to implement individualized care plans.
- Excellent patient, family, and caregiver education skills.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt treatment plans based on patient progress.
- Knowledge of applicable federal regulations and state practice acts.
- Experience using adaptive equipment and therapeutic devices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Professionalism when interacting with patients, families, coworkers, and the public.
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Ability to accept feedback and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
