Job Description We are seeking an experienced and driven Environmental Industrial Hygienist / Project Manager to join our Industrial Hygiene team. This is a client-facing, leadership-track role for someone with strong technical industrial hygiene experience who can manage projects, support clients, and contribute as a key technical resource across a variety of engagements. In this role, you will anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace environmental hazards across a variety of industrial and healthcare environments. You will serve as a technical lead and project manager, supporting complex client engagements while helping to develop junior staff and expand service offerings within the region. This position is well suited for individuals who want to play an important role in project execution, client support, and team collaboration, and are looking to transition into a senior leadership role within an established and growing consulting practice. This role offers the opportunity to work across industrial and healthcare environments while building depth in both technical industrial hygiene and client-facing consulting. Core Responsibilities Work Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members Manage and support industrial hygiene projects from scoping through execution and reporting Conduct and oversee exposure assessments, investigations, and sampling activities Develop and implement sampling strategies based on project scope and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.) Evaluate workplace environments for chemical, physical, and biological hazards and recommend appropriate control measures Interpret and apply OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards to support client compliance Support occupational health and safety (OSH) compliance initiatives, including in healthcare environments Provide consulting support for healthcare clients, including infection control risk assessments (ICRA), ST-108 compliance, and Joint Commission readiness initiatives Support physical environment consulting for healthcare facilities, including regulatory and accreditation-related assessments Perform and oversee environmental monitoring activities, including air, noise, and water sampling, and support water quality and Legionella risk management programs Apply knowledge of asbestos, lead, and mold in support of inspections, sampling activities, and coordination of remediation or abatement projects Serve as a key point of contact for clients on assigned projects, supporting communication, coordination, and deliverables Prepare and review technical reports, ensuring quality and accuracy Assist with identifying opportunities to support existing clients with additional services Mentor and support junior staff in field activities and project execution Contribute to project coordination, workflow improvements, and team support initiatives Maintain accurate field documentation, project records, and deliverables Ability and willingness to travel regionally, with occasional national travel, including overnight or extended assignments as needed Operations Be aware of and work in a manner that supports the organization’s vision and defined business objectives Conduct self and collaborate with others in working toward achievement of defined profit objectives of assigned projects Cooperate in construction of strong cross-functional teams (cooperate with any suggested project assignments outside of original assigned practice area) to achieve success in shared goals, understanding that multiple perspectives and talents build stronger teams and results Complete daily tasks consistently Qualifications & Competencies Requires a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health, or environmental consulting, a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience and no degree. Experience conducting field sampling, exposure assessments, and workplace evaluations Strong understanding of industrial hygiene principles and field sampling methods Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements Familiarity with industrial hygiene equipment, including air sampling pumps, noise dosimeters, and direct-reading instruments Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present findings to clients Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a client-focused environment Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic data management Proven track record of independent work product production, project management, communication, and coordination with other team members Demonstrated management skills Preferred Qualifications CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or progress toward certification Experience supporting healthcare environments and regulatory compliance initiatives Experience with water quality programs, including Legionella risk management and ST-108 implementation HAZWOPER 40-Hour certification and medical monitoring in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 Experience mentoring junior staff, managing projects, and contributing to team or program development efforts Physical Requirements Ability to walk job sites during inspections, including uneven terrain, and climb ladders to access and evaluate roofs and rooftop equipment Ability to carry field testing equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a regular basis Participation in the VERTEX medical monitoring program is required for applicable project work, including medical/physical exams, respiratory protection fit testing, and PPE training Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for environmental site assessments, subsurface investigations, remediation projects, or other tasks involving potential exposure risks Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites Additional Information At VERTEX, we invest in top talent with a highly competitive total compensation package designed to reward performance and support long-term success. • 79,000.00 - $216,000.00 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria)
• 73,000.00 - $198,000.00 USD annually (Geographical Tier B - Sample Locations: Baltimore, Chicago, Anchorage, Portland)
