Apply today.Banner Gateway Medical Center’s Surgery department consists of 12 Operating Rooms which includes 8 in the Main OR and 4 located at the Banner Gateway Surgery Center on campus. BGMC offers a wide range of surgical specialties serving a mostly adult population. BGMC supplies all surgical support to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Located near Phoenix in Gilbert, Ariz., Banner Gateway Medical Center offers 286 private rooms, 13 operating suites, a 46-bed emergency department and shares a campus with the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our WIS and NICU services support an average of 4,000 deliveries per year. Key specialties include oncology, obstetrics, bariatric surgery, emergency and other services that focus on meeting the changing needs of the dynamic and growing community we serve.Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Located in Gilbert, Ariz. (the Phoenix Metro area) on the Banner Gateway Campus, the center provides world-class care for oncology patients - both inpatient and outpatient - and has also brought leading oncology programs to the Banner Gateway campus including designation as a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and comprehensive Head & Neck cancer care. Our capabilities include five linear accelerator vaults, a brachytherapy vault, an advanced diagnostic imaging suite with PET/CT scan, more than 70 infusion bays, a cryopreservation lab and much more. Our inpatient medical oncology unit also incorporates a program that utilizes the electronic surveillance partnership in caring for the patient, where remote nurses have the ability to interact with patients via two-way audio-video to assist the bedside nurse with patient care.POSITION SUMMARY This position selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures good working order of instruments. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs. 2. Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Passes instruments and retracts tissue. 3. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Participates in counting of sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case. 4. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate. 5. Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms. 6. May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks. 7. Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma/GED and current basic life support certification. Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory Agency The position requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations. The position requires the ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient. Must stay abreast of new developments in the field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
