Special Education ESP (Compass) Silver Hill Elementary Haverhill Public Schools – Silver Hill Elementary, Haverhill, Massachusetts Job ID: 5812953 | Application Deadline: Posted until filled | Posted: Jul 01, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Sep 1, 2026 Job Description Position: Educational Support Personnel – Special Education (Full-Time; Bilingual Preferred) Location: Silver Hill Elementary School Work Year: Ten (10) months – 182 days – 6, 6.5 or 7 hours per day Twelve (12) months – 227 days – 6, 6.5 or 7 hours per day Effective Date of Employment: 2026‑2027 School Year Salary: Associate Degree or Equivalent – $27,343.68 per year; Bachelor Degree – $30,892.68 per year Reports to: Principal (building matters) and Director of Special Education (special education matters) Statement of Duties Under supervision of a certified teacher and in accordance with students’ IEPs, prepare for classroom instructional events and other educational or non‑educational activities. Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies and interventions to reinforce material or skills based on individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities. Provide positive and appropriate role models for students at all times; treat students with due respect as individuals. Assist in the teaching process and work directly with children to provide class support in academics, social skills, self‑care (ADL’s), and vocational tasks. Assist with generalization in skill development and community integration. Assist in addressing student behavior and encouraging effort in the classroom. Use online platforms such as Google Meet and Google Classroom; work in person and virtually. Complete onboarding process, including familiarization with and responsibility for implementing students’ IEPs, district policies and procedures. Serve as a resource person communicating student needs to teachers for specific instruction and goal attainment. Assist in behavioral interventions; pursue Safety Care certification (full restraint training provided). Assist in implementing treatment, safety, and behavior plans for students. Collect data as instructed. Collaborate with team members such as BCBA, RBT, etc. Apply ABA strategies (training provided). Execute discrete trials, de‑escalation techniques and positive behavioral interventions (training provided). Assist in toileting for certain students with disabilities if required. Lift and carry certain students with disabilities per IEP (if required). Additional Responsibilities Reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. Assist with self‑help and independence skills. Implement remedial and review exercises, practice, and drill work as outlined by the teacher. Aid independent study, enrichment or remedial work as provided by the teacher. Help students master instructional tasks assigned by teachers. Assist in test taking, use of instructional technology, and reading to students. Observe and note performance and behaviors. Implement curriculum modifications or accommodations designed by professional staff. Escort and supervise student movement throughout the school. Proctor testing and provide make‑up work assistance. Participate in professional development activities appropriate to district expectations and ESP job requirements. Assist teachers with non‑instructional duties such as toileting and diaper changing. Provide supervision/monitoring of students during breaks, lunches, community trips, and other times as assigned. Supervise pupils during corridors, fire drills, and assemblies. Assist students in situations outside their regular assignment per teacher request. Temporary assignment of additional administrative duties (lunchroom, recess, playground). Set up and operate instructional and/or assistive technology equipment under teacher direction. Qualifications Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other state‑approved assessment program or 48 college credits, or an Associate Degree. Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff. Prefer prior experience working with children in a school or similar setting. Physical requirements: Ability to move in and out of classrooms, buildings, and up/down stairs; lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds; lift/carry materials or persons up to 75 pounds with assistance; climb stairs, kneel, and move easily on/off floor mats. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, respect for confidentiality, sensitivity to children’s problems, resourcefulness, thoroughness, initiative, patience, courtesy, dependability, and enthusiasm. Computer literate. Ability to learn and use assistive technology. Use online platforms (Google Meet, Google Classroom) in person and virtually. Bilingual preferred. Other qualifications may be accepted at Superintendent’s discretion.
