Mazama Energy ("Company") is a leading geothermal energy exploration and development company dedicated to harnessing renewable energy resources to deliver sustainable, reliable, and scalable energy solutions. The Company’s commitment to innovation, scientific excellence, and environmental stewardship drives the advancement of next‑generation geothermal technologies, including Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), to unlock clean, baseload energy resources. Through the integration of advanced geoscience, drilling, reservoir engineering, and operational expertise, Mazama Energy is developing geothermal resources capable of powering a more sustainable energy future. Position Summary Mazama Energy is seeking an experienced Geothermal Exploration and Development Geologist to support geological site screening, subsurface resource assessments, geothermal field drilling, and site development activities, with a focus on high‑temperature Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). This role combines strategic opportunity evaluation, including technical due diligence, geothermal site screening and identification, and data room reviews for investment opportunities, with hands‑on exploration and oversight of geothermal field operations. The position will be responsible for integrating drilling results into subsurface models, resource assessments, reservoir characterization studies, and development plans. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing geothermal opportunities from early‑stage concept generation through exploration, appraisal, drilling, resource confirmation, and field development. This individual will work closely with geoscience, drilling, reservoir, and stimulation engineering teams to integrate geological, geophysical, geochemical, and well‑site data into geothermal reservoir development, management, and field operations. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Geothermal Exploration and Prospect Evaluation Conduct geological screening and evaluation of geothermal resources and development opportunities. Identify, assess, and mature promising geothermal prospects and development sites. Perform geothermal play fairway analysis to support regional exploration programs. Assess geothermal resource potential using geological, geophysical, geochemical, and drilling datasets. Conduct heat‑in‑place assessments and resource estimation studies. Develop exploration concepts, prospect portfolios, and maturation strategies. Evaluate geological risks and opportunities associated with geothermal development. Technical Due Diligence and Opportunity Assessment Participate in technical due diligence evaluations of geothermal acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and investment opportunities. Conduct comprehensive reviews of geothermal exploration and development data rooms. Evaluate subsurface datasets and project risks associated with potential investments and development opportunities. Prepare technical assessments, resource evaluations, and risk analyses for management and stakeholders. Support strategic growth initiatives through technical opportunity screening and evaluation. Subsurface Characterization and Geological Modeling Develop and maintain subsurface geological and structural models supporting geothermal exploration and development. Integrate multidisciplinary datasets to characterize geothermal systems and reservoirs. Interpret lithology, stratigraphy, structural controls, fracture systems, permeability pathways, and thermal regimes. Support resource assessments and reservoir characterization studies. Incorporate drilling, coring, testing, and operational data into subsurface models. Collaborate with reservoir engineering teams on reservoir management and development planning. Drilling, Coring, and Wellsite Support Support planning and execution of geothermal drilling campaigns. Assist with drilling plans, well placement strategies, and well trajectory evaluation. Contribute to the design and evaluation of directional and horizontal well trajectories. Provide geological input and support during drilling operations. Support coring programs, core logging, and geological interpretation. Participate in mud logging activities and geological wellsite supervision. Monitor drilling results and integrate findings into resource models and development plans. Conduct post‑drill evaluations and lessons‑learned reviews. Geothermal Field Development Support appraisal and development activities for high‑temperature geothermal projects. Collaborate closely with drilling, reservoir, and stimulation engineering teams. Evaluate geological controls on reservoir performance, permeability, and fluid flow. Support geothermal reservoir development, management, and operational activities. Contribute to field development planning and optimization efforts. Education Minimum Master’s degree required in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field. PhD preferred.
