Job Purpose
The ECEAP Teacher provides high-quality, developmentally appropriate early learning experiences that support each child’s growth, confidence, and school readiness. This position leads the classroom team in implementing Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Second Step, and ECEAP Performance Standards with consistency and care. The Teacher maintains a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment; builds respectful relationships with children and families; and models professionalism, positivity, flexibility, and teamwork in daily interactions.
What You'll DoEssential Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction, Curriculum & Assessment
- Plans and implements engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that reflect children’s interests, cultures, abilities, and individual goals.
- Implements Creative Curriculum with fidelity, including intentional planning, interest-area setup, small- and large-group activities, outdoor learning, and hands-on exploration aligned to developmental domains.
- Develops, posts, and follows weekly lesson plans that reflect classroom observations, individual child needs, family input, and ECEAP requirements.
- Uses Teaching Strategies GOLD to observe, document, assess, and individualize for children’s progress; enters documentation and checkpoint data accurately and on schedule.
- Delivers Second Step social-emotional lessons consistently and embeds social-emotional teaching strategies throughout classroom routines, transitions, conflict resolution, and peer interactions.
- Uses observation, assessment, and team input to adjust teaching strategies, classroom materials, and routines to support whole-child development and school readiness.
- Maintains current and accurate child assessment documentation, portfolios, and developmental records in accordance with ECEAP timelines and agency expectations.
- Ensures Teaching Strategies GOLD observations, checkpoints, and other required assessment data are entered accurately, completely, and by established deadlines.
- Regularly reviews child data to identify progress, individualized supports, and instructional adjustments needed to promote positive child outcomes.
Child Supervision, Health & Safety
- Maintains active supervision at all times using DCYF-aligned strategies, including positioning, scanning, counting, listening, anticipating needs, and engaging with children.
- Monitors children during classroom activities, meals, toileting, transitions, outdoor play, field trips, arrival, and dismissal to ensure safety, well-being, and accountability.
- Creates a physically, socially, and emotionally safe environment that supports exploration, independence, belonging, and positive behavior guidance.
- Follows health, sanitation, nutrition, emergency, incident reporting, medication, allergy, and child abuse reporting procedures as required by CCAC, DCYF licensing, and ECEAP standards.
- Responds calmly and professionally to classroom needs, emergencies, and unexpected situations while maintaining a supportive tone with children, families, and staff.
Family Partnership & Communication
- Builds positive, respectful, and culturally responsive relationships with families as partners in their child’s learning and development.
- Communicates regularly with families through Brightwheel, in-person conversations, conferences, and other approved communication methods to share updates, observations, resources, and celebrations of progress.
- Collaborates with the Family Support Specialist to coordinate services, referrals, follow-up, family goals, and supports that promote child and family well-being.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences, child goal setting, transition planning, and family engagement activities in alignment with ECEAP Performance Standards.
- Maintains confidentiality and communicates with families in a professional, strengths-based, solution-focused manner.
Collaboration, Leadership & Teamwork
- Leads the classroom team with a positive, professional, and collaborative approach that supports consistency, accountability, and high-quality services.
- Works closely with the Assistant Teacher, Center Supervisor, Education & Disabilities Specialist, Family Support Specialist, and other team members to maintain consistent routines and coordinated supports for children and families.
- Provides respectful day-to-day guidance to assistant teachers, volunteers, substitutes, and support staff to ensure classroom expectations, safety procedures, and learning plans are followed.
- Participates actively in staff meetings, planning sessions, trainings, coaching, reflective supervision, and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement.
- Communicates concerns, staffing needs, child needs, and classroom updates promptly and professionally through the appropriate channels.

Documentation, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of child observations, assessment data, lesson plans, attendance, classroom activities, incident reports, and other required records.
- Follows all ECEAP Performance Standards, DCYF licensing rules, health and safety requirements, and CCAC policies and procedures.
- Attends required trainings, workshops, in-services, and professional development activities to maintain qualifications and strengthen teaching practice.
- Uses coaching, observation feedback, data, and self-reflection to improve classroom quality, child outcomes, and family engagement.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support program operations and the mission of Child Care Action Council.
- Maintains complete, organized, and up-to-date child files in compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards, agency requirements, and monitoring expectations.
- Ensures all required documentation, screenings, assessments, parent conferences, family contacts, attendance records, and child-related files are completed accurately and within required timelines.
- Monitors documentation systems proactively and follows up on missing or incomplete information to maintain compliance and program quality.
- Demonstrates accountability for data integrity by entering, reviewing, and correcting information promptly and accurately.
- Participates in internal monitoring, file reviews, audits, and compliance activities and implements corrective actions within established timelines when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
- Actively participates in quality improvement activities, including Early Achievers requirements and supports such as professional development, coaching, classroom observations, data collection, self-assessment, and quality improvement planning.
- Implements quality improvement goals and action steps identified through Early Achievers, ECEAP requirements, agency monitoring, coaching, supervisory feedback, and classroom data review.
- Maintains classroom practices, documentation, and follow-through that support Early Achievers expectations, ECEAP Performance Standards, classroom quality standards, and continuous program improvement.
Qualifications
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education and two years of early childhood experience.
Experience with ECEAP, Head Start, or state Pre‑K programs preferred.
Must meet all DCYF and ECEAP health, safety, and training requirements, including:

Food Handler’s Permit
DCYF Portable Background Check
Required immunizations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of early childhood development, developmentally appropriate practice, Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Second Step, ECEAP Performance Standards, DCYF licensing requirements, and the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
Skill in lesson planning, child observation, assessment, positive behavior guidance, classroom leadership, family communication, and maintaining supportive relationships with children, staff, and families.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations with tact, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently, interpret and apply policies, follow through on responsibilities, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and families.
- Ability to communicate respectfully, accept feedback, adapt to changing classroom needs, and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Ability to use computers, Brightwheel, assessment systems, and other approved technology for communication, data entry, documentation, and report creation.
Working Conditions
- Work performed primarily in classroom and office settings.
- Requires hand‑eye coordination to operate computers and classroom equipment.
- Noise level ranges from moderate to high depending on classroom activity.
- Occasional travel required for meetings, professional development or other needs.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, talk, hear, and use hands for fine motor tasks.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
