Inpatient Coding Lead: Revenue Integrity & Mentorship

Department: H4021: Revenue Management - Coding & Documentation Grade Level: 11 Position Type: Staff (Full-Time) Location: Lexington, KY Salary: $54,080 - $95,056 per year Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm Job Summary The Inpatient Coding Lead provides advanced technical expertise and leadership for inpatient coding operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance in hospital billing. This role performs and reviews complex inpatient coding, mentors and supports coding staff, coordinates daily workflows, and ensures consistent application of ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, and DRG guidelines. The position assists with audits, denial resolution, documentation improvements, and serves as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders and leadership, contributing directly to revenue integrity and continuous documentation and process improvement. Responsibilities Perform and review complex inpatient coding Mentor and support coding staff Coordinate daily coding workflows Ensure accurate, timely coding in accordance with ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, and DRG guidelines Assist with audits and denial resolution Improve documentation and processes for compliance Act as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders and leadership Qualifications Proficiency in ICD-10-CM coding Knowledge of medical record abstraction and medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects while accurately completing routine functions in a high‑intensity environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, EPIC, and Solventum Products Excellent attention to detail, planning, and organizational skills Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to solve routine problems Demonstrated superior customer service, time management, judgment, confidentiality, and respect for diversity High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate or bachelor degree preferred At least 4+ years of related or progressive experience; academic medical center Level I trauma coding experience preferred Employment Information Required Education: High School Preferred Education: Associate or Bachelor Degree Required License/Registration/Certification: None Physical Requirements: Intermittent sitting at a computer workstation; repetitive motions such as typing; intermittent standing or walking with objects up to 10 lbs; occasional standing or walking with objects up to 25 lbs; occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
