Some (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a full‑time Controller to support our Finance department. Compensation Competitive salary ranging from $153,275.20 to $162,087.12, commensurate with experience. Position Description The Controller is responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations and ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and established financial controls. The role leads the implementation and monitoring of accounting policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls, mitigate risk, and promote financial accuracy and accountability. The Controller stays current on new accounting pronouncements, regulatory updates, and compliance developments. They manage the coordination and submission of annual financial audits, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial records and reports. The role coordinates the month‑end close process, analyzes financial activity, and ensures accurate and timely payment processing. The Controller maintains financial systems and partners with staff and leadership to support organizational goals, serving as a key liaison for cross‑departmental collaboration and continuous improvement of financial operations. Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; Hybrid schedule. Work up to 3 days per week onsite. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree 8–10 years of Finance and Accounting Experience Previous supervisory experience Non‑profit Finance experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 10+ years of Finance and Accounting experience Previous management experience Experience in non‑profit and for‑profit finance Required License/Certification CPA license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities In‑depth knowledge of Accounting and Finance Problem‑solving and analytical skills Knowledge of restricted and unrestricted fund levels Knowledge of current accounting and reporting software used in the finance department Knowledge of grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, foundation, and individual grants Organized with an attention to detail Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to delegate Time management Management and supervisory skills Able to multitask and prioritize competing priorities Expected Contributions Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Finance function Oversee budget development and execution Respond to all financial audits for the agency and its affiliates Monitor and review program financial performance for all legal entities Ensure correct financial systems are in place Perform financial planning for new programs Manage cash‑flow forecasting in coordination with CFO Maintain internal controls and safeguards for cash management Educate and train Program Managers and Administration teams on finance processes and regulations Ensure compliance with standards and laws; provide compliance reporting Manage tax planning and compliance with state, federal, and local tax jurisdictions Act as liaison between Housing Development and Finance Develop management reports and identify financial trends Keep current on all accounting and auditing standards applicable to non‑profits Lead design, management, and implementation of relevant modules of selected accounting systems Evaluate and re‑engineer corporate processes for efficiency Accounting Maintain system of accounts, ledgers, and fiscal records Oversee development of all financial statements in accordance with GAAP Develop and maintain internal control framework Coordinate internal and external reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual) Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial close processes Coordinate annual independent audit and additional audits required by donors Manage and oversee accounting functions daily Oversee monthly and annual financial disclosures Fulfill requests for information by the Finance Committee Perform duties of CFO when needed Provide strategic vision for growth Suggest improvements to revenue growth and expense reduction Present at Finance Committee meetings Assist Board Treasurer; provide analysis and advice to the Board Collaborate and coordinate with the administrative team Reports to Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer Application Go to our career page at and click on the search icon to locate this position.
