Looking Glass is Hiring a Social Service Assistant to Join Our Agency!

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

As an RCC Social Service Assistant, you will schedule, coordinate, and supervise group activities at the RCC program. You will maintain consistency and safety among clients, observe and record behavior patterns, aid in service planning, and document necessary behaviors. You will help clients with skill-building and providing directions in performing daily housekeeping duties, chores, physical activity, recreation, hygiene, and school work. You will complete crisis intervention and de-escalate clients daily utilizing the crisis intervention techniques learned during training.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: You must have either prior experience working with combative at-risk youth, preferably in a residential setting, OR previous experience working in a fast paced, service oriented, challenging yet structured environment. This can include general people experience from challenging to basic daily life experience.

Availability: Schedule varies each month to provide adequate floor coverage. A minimum of 50 hours per month is required, shifts are usually 8-10 hours

Certifications/Licenses: Eligibility for a QMHA certification through MHACBO is preferred. We offer non-transferrable QMHA certification in-house with either; a bachelors degree in a related field OR 3+ years relevant experience

Program Overview

RCC, or the Regional Crisis Center, is a PRTS/subacute residential facility where youth are placed directly from the Department of Human Services. RCC provides on-site residential living facilities, mental health treatment, family counseling, substance use disorders treatment, and academic instruction and education. RCC clients often display acute behaviors and have multiple cognitive or behavioral challenges. RCC uses verbal de-escalation tactics as well as seclusion rooms and full-body restraints, when necessary, to ensure the safety of our clients.

People who succeed in this role have a passion for helping youth and are able to relate to teens from all different backgrounds, values, and cultures. You must be a positive youth mentor and role model who can demonstrate strong boundaries. You must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle stressful situations.

IMPORTANT - WORK ENVIRONMENT NOTICE: This position provides on-site support, which delivers residential, shelter, and crisis-based services to youth and young adults experiencing behavioral or mental health crises. Employees in this role should expect to work in environments where clients may, at times, display escalated, unpredictable, or aggressive behavior, including physical aggression. Staff are expected to follow agency safety and de-escalation protocols, maintain situational awareness, and coordinate closely with other clinical and direct-care staff, particularly during crisis situations.

In compliance with applicable laws and licensing requirements, Looking Glass Human Resources Department conducts a background check on all new employees, non-paid staff (volunteers and interns), and existing staff as required. This is completed by the Background Check Unit with the State of Oregon per the Oregon Administrative Rules.
