Department Student Engagement & International Affairs Compensation $104,511.75 Annual General Description / Primary Purpose: The Dean of Students provides strategic leadership for student care services, student conduct and academic integrity, behavioral intervention and threat assessment, Title IX prevention education, conflict resolution, and student development initiatives. The position directs the operations of the Dean of Students Office, oversees programs and services that promote student accountability and campus safety, ensures compliance with applicable laws and university policies, and collaborates with campus stakeholders to address student needs and advance institutional priorities. The position serves as a resource to the university community, provides consultation on complex student issues, and develops recommendations, proposals, and reports for senior leadership to support informed decision-making and strategic initiatives. Job Function: Direct efforts to continuously improve the University community by promoting student development and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and university policies. Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations of student care services, alternative dispute resolution, educational initiatives, student accountability programming, university conduct, and Title IX prevention efforts. Manage fiscal resources and budget authority for the Dean of Students Office. Oversee departmental communications, website content, informational materials, and statistical reporting for the Dean of Students Office. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (OFSL). Maintain and administer the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and Death and Serious Injury Policy. Serve as the primary administrator for Maxient case management software, including coordinating system communication, access, and support with university departments. Chair the Judicial Hold Committee and Medical Withdrawal Committee and oversee the Student Conduct Board, Care Services Team, CATA Team, and Hazing Prevention Committee. Serve as an active member of the University Clery Committee, Alcohol Biennial Review Committee, Healthy Osprey Committee, Safety Council, Title IX Committee, and other committees as needed. Maintain collaborative partnerships with campus departments and stakeholders, including University Police, Housing & Residence Life, General Counsel, the Counseling Center, Undergraduate Studies, and other student service areas. Serve as the primary point of contact for behavioral threat assessment and management concerns and behavioral or academic concerns affecting students and the university community. Monitor students of concern and campus-wide risk factors and provide crisis management, safety strategies, and educational programming to address student needs and promote campus safety. Serve as a member of the campus administrative response team for university events and incidents. Serve as a primary university point of contact for demonstrations, rallies, protests, and other expressive activities, coordinating with campus partners to support student engagement, policy compliance, and campus safety. Direct Medical Withdrawal Committee case management processes, collaborate with university medical professionals, and render decisions based on final case documentation. Oversee the Supporting Our Students (SOS) Team and coordinate interventions for students exhibiting behaviors of concern. Oversee case management services for students experiencing financial hardship, housing insecurity, homelessness, or involvement with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). Oversee alternative dispute resolution and reflection sessions and serve as a facilitator for resolution-based processes when needed. Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and curriculum development of the Student Conduct Board. Administer the university conduct system, including academic, behavioral, organizational, and sexual misconduct matters, and collaborate with university partners to ensure consistent student messaging and accountability. Assign disciplinary holds, issue No Contact Orders, and facilitate interim measures in collaboration with appropriate university leadership. Review incident reports, assign cases for investigation or processing, and serve as a hearing officer for complex or high-profile cases as needed. Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Student Affairs and coordinate support, resources, and assistance for students reporting incidents of sexual misconduct. Ensure the Division of Academic & Student Affairs receives training, education, and guidance related to sexual misconduct reporting and response obligations. Serve as a trained facilitator for informal resolutions and as a decision-maker in sexual misconduct and Title IX matters. Marginal Functions: Complete Dean's Certifications, disciplinary clearances, and conduct verifications. Compile and provide student conduct data for the Annual Security Report. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job‑related duties at a designated off campus location. Supervision Exercised: Supervises the Dean of Students team, including Student Care Services, University Conduct, Programming and Resolution, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, administrative staff, students, volunteers, and interns. Supervision Received: Reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Engagement and exercises a high level of independent judgment and decision-making within the scope of assigned authority. Required Qualifications Master's and 6+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Statement(s) of Understanding This position requires a background check.
