About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. EPIC experience preferred. Travel experience on a MedSurg Floor is a plus. Description: The unit has a total of 56 beds, consisting of private and semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 during the night. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health issues. Nurses are not required to titrate drips; however, common titratable medications include Heparin and Lasix. A charge nurse is present on each shift, and they do not take patient assignments. Patient care technicians are available to assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory equipment used includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, as well as inhalers and suctioning. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely, and nurses can view strips on a digital platform. Shifts are scheduled using an electronic system that allows for self-scheduling and block scheduling. Nurses are expected to work every other weekend and holidays as needed. Floating to other acute care departments may be required. Scrubs of any color are acceptable, and no visible tattoos or piercings beyond earrings are allowed. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
