AMA Certified Medical Assistant - Pediatric Clinic

General Summary

The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to assist clinical staff by performing vital patient care tasks, maintaining organization, and ensuring a smooth clinic workflow. This position requires professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking abilities, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
• Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
• Manage phone communications by routing messages and assisting with patient inquiries.
• Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, including communicating test results and assisting with follow-up calls.
• Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
• Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation efficiently.
• Monitor and maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms.
• Educate patients and guardians about electronic health record portals and assist with enrollment.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program or equivalent experience. High school diploma required.

Experience

Preferred: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist, ideally in a clinical setting.

Certification and Licenses

Preferred: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Requires significant mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, occasional interaction with hostile individuals, and minimal physical discomfort.
