POSITION SUMMARY
The QMHP of a Residential Treatment program provides evidence-based, person-centered mental health services for clients who are severely and persistently mentally ill (SPMI) and who may have co-occurring disorders. The QMHP conducts Comprehensive Mental Health Assessments and develops Treatment Plans. Additionally, they actively participate and oversee rehabilitative treatment services provided to clients and provide guidance and supervision to Qualified Mental Health Associates (QMHAs) and Direct Care Staff (DCS).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL SERVICES
- Conduct Comprehensive Mental Health Assessments to evaluate client mental health needs.
- Complete individualized Treatment Plans which identify goals and establish measurable objectives focused on improving the level of functioning.
- Provide individual therapy sessions using trauma-informed care principles to assess client needs, continued development of personalized treatment plans, and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Monitor clients' progress in therapy and adjust Treatment Plans as necessary to ensure effectiveness.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions focusing on topics such as coping skills, psychoeducation and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Foster a safe and supportive therapeutic environment that promotes healing and empowers clients to achieve their treatment goals.
- Participate in treatment team meetings to discuss client progress, treatment goals, and discharge planning.
- Work closely with program administrators, external healthcare providers, families, guardians, and community partners to coordinate client treatment.
- Advocate for client rights and collaborate with community resources to support their successful transition to a lower level of care when appropriate.
- Assist in addressing client grievances and concerns promptly and effectively.
- Assist with crisis de-escalation tactics for clients experiencing crisis situations.
- Facilitate and nurture a therapeutic environment, promoting a culture centered around restorative care.
- Assist with the process of reviewing referrals and conducting screenings of potential clients.
- Assist in the coordination of client admissions, discharges, and internal transfers, ensuring efficient processes and smooth transitions within the program.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of clinical documentation.
- Oversee the development of comprehensive client treatment schedules, ensuring alignment with individualized Treatment Plans and therapeutic goals.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION
- Deliver essential clinical supervision to QMHA staff in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).
- Review and approve clinical documentation submitted by QMHA’s during their introductory period; offer guidance and feedback on documentation standards.
- Mentor and support QMHA and DCS staff in developing therapeutic interventions that are tailored to the unique needs and strengths of each client.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, growth, and reflection among clinical staff to enhance the quality of care provided to residents.
SAFETY
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure environment for residents and staff.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety plans for residents at risk of harm to self or others.
- Collaborate with facility leadership to address safety concerns and implement preventive measures as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines established by regulatory agencies and internal policies.
- Provide training to staff on crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies to prevent and manage behavioral crises effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods. Staff may need to run, bend, stoop, lift, or reach on occasion.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, tools, controls and to handle paperwork.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, and observe facility operations.
- Ability to navigate the facility, including stairs and corridors, as needed.
- Hearing and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with staff, clients and administrative staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will generally occur in a Residential Treatment program but can occur throughout the community. As such, some travel may be required, and safe driving is essential. Work in this field can be mentally and emotionally demanding and requires personal and professional skills to effectively cope with potential stressors.

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field to meet and maintain QMHP certification through the Mental Health and Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO).
- Two years of experience working in a Residential Treatment program is preferred.
- Training in trauma-informed care, crisis de-escalation, and experience establishing rapport and a therapeutic relationship with SPMI clients.
- Proficient in utilizing software systems including Electronic Health Records and Google Workspace.
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.
