Phoenix Children's Center for Heart Care is nationally ranked in Cardiology and Heart Surgery by U.S. News & World Report. Our program includes cardiologists, cardiac intensivists, cardiovascular surgeons, and advanced practice providers, delivering exceptional, family centered care across Arizona.
The Division of Cardiology currently hosts a fellowship training program in general pediatric cardiology. The Phoenix Children's Center for Heart Care also hosts subspecialty fellowships in pediatric cardiac critical care, advanced cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiac catheterization. The inpatient service includes a 48-bed CV intensive care unit and transition care unit. Patient care is interdisciplinary involving transplant cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, and dedicated cardiac NP and PA providers. The provision of both workplace based and didactic teaching to fellows, residents, medical students, and nurses is an expectation in this role. With outpatient service throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and outreach clinics across the state, Phoenix Children's offers both clinical practice and opportunities for academic and research engagement. As one of the nation's largest pediatric health systems, we are a premier destination for complex pediatric care in the Southwest. Job Responsibilities:
1. Diagnosing Heart Conditions:
o Evaluate, diagnose, and manage congenital or acquired heart conditions, such as congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, or heart failure.
o Use diagnostic tools like echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (EKGs), stress tests, and cardiac catheterization.
2. Treatment Planning and Management:
o Develop and implement treatment plans, which may include medications, lifestyle changes, or interventional procedures like catheterizations or surgeries.
o Collaborate with pediatric heart surgeons for surgical interventions when necessary.
3. Patient Care:
o Provide compassionate care, addressing both medical and emotional needs of children and their families.
o Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatments as necessary.
o Offer guidance and support to families regarding the long-term management of heart conditions.
4. Interventional Procedures:
o Perform non-invasive and invasive procedures to diagnose and treat heart conditions, such as angioplasties or stenting, when appropriate.
5. Collaboration and Teamwork:
o Work with a multidisciplinary team, including pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, APP's, and nursing staff.
o Refer patients to other specialists as needed.
6. Patient Education:
o Educate patients and their families on heart health, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
o Help families understand complex medical terms and procedures.
7. Research and Education:
o Stay updated on the latest pediatric cardiology research and advances.
o Participate in or lead clinical trials, medical research, or academic teaching if working in a hospital setting.
8. Emergency Care:
o Provide emergency care and interventions for acute heart conditions, such as heart attacks, severe arrhythmias, or sudden heart failure in children. Required Qualifications:
• Doctor of Medicine OR Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine OR equivalent
• Completion of a specialized 3-year fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology
• Board certified / eligible in Pediatric Cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Arizona Phoenix Children's Hospital has academic appointments at University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, Mayo Medical School, and Creighton Med School.

- Patient Care Services
1) Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
a) Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis
b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up.
c) Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures
d) Provide these services for urgent/ emergent care as necessary
2) Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care
3) Support Hospital's patient satisfaction goals as well as division's specific targets
4) Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards
5) Practices Contemporary Evidence based medicine or latest experience based medicine
- Divisional Responsibilities
1) Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g. individual, division, hospital)
2) Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
a) Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures and conference for trainees
c) Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division
d) Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division
3) Support the research endeavors of the division including the research initiatives by other members of the division
4) Support programmatic growth of division
5) Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate

- Other activities
1) Physician shall support the Division Chief in his/her role as liaison to the professional community and general public as requested by the Division Chief
2) Physician may conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of Phoenix Children's, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs/ initiatives.
3) Physician shall represent Phoenix Children's in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner
4) The following physical and mental skills are essential to the physician's ability to successfully perform the foregoing duties and responsibilities:
a) The ability to communicate by telephone, computer or other communication devices
b) The ability to perform after hours or night call responsibilities as needed
c) The ability to work regularly scheduled work hours
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
