Resource Specialist I

Job Title Resource Specialist I Agency Texas A&M Forest Service Department Gilmer District Proposed Minimum Salary $20.45 hourly Job Location Gilmer, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Resource Specialist provides support to District Operations to ensure all programs offered by TFS are administered within the District. Responsibilities Supports District Forester with delivery of Field Operation programs, including preparation of tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, direct interaction with clientele, drafting of management plans, capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention, and special projects. Serves as a wildland firefighter and/or emergency responder on a statewide basis, operating heavy firefighting equipment, using hand firefighting tools, and performing ground reconnaissance on wildfires. Employee must manage and account for assigned credit cards, vehicles, and equipment, keeping them in good working order and properly serviced. Employee must meet and annually maintain a physical fitness standard, which includes successfully completing a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack, obtaining required NWCG training and Red Card Certification, carrying a communication device for 24-hour availability, and responding to dispatcher alerts within 30 minutes. Requires operating heavy equipment with exposure to vibrations and noise, harsh environmental conditions, long distances walking, extended standing, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting heavy objects, driving a motor vehicle for long distances, prolonged computer use, working long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions, and exposure to emotionally stressful situations. May qualify for out-of-state duty under the wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS 310-1) upon meeting applicable fitness levels. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Preferred Education: Graduate with a 2-year natural resources related technical degree. Required Experience: None. Preferred Experience: Similar position with company or agency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge: PC-based programs and software. Required Skills: Good oral and written communication skills. Required Ability: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Ability: Ability to utilize GIS/GPS programs. Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses Required: Valid Texas CDL Class A or ability to obtain one within 180 days of date of hire. Preferred: FFT‑1.
